UBC Nursing - September 2013

Published

Hey Everyone!

I'm hoping to apply for UBC nursing 2013, but I am a little worried as I haven't volunteered for 2 years. My question is, if I get back into volunteering this summer will my chances of being accepted be higher?

Thank you!

Hi everyone!

This is my first post as well! I didn't expect a whole forum group of UBC nursing hopefuls like me :) My interview is today (April 17th) at 9:20am. Bright and early! I'm a second year student here at UBC and I'm super nervous about this interview because I'm not the most sophisticated person ever. I am stressed with finals, but I'm hoping all goes well! BEST OF LUCK TO ALL!

I thought it was ok. The interviewers are super nice !!

Were you able to carry pen and paper? Last year it was allowed but I am not sure about this year.

My interview is tomorrow as well. Been reading up on ethical topics all day!

Yes you are allowed to have a pen and paper for notes and you may take it into each room but you have to leave it there so you can't leave with any of the questions written down. To be honest I'd probably recommend against the notes because looking down at them wouldn't send the best message. They have a copy of the scenario in the room if you need a reminder.

I felt like there was no time to even take notes. Also it is directly in front of you and you can continuously refer!

Yes I definitely did not take notes, I felt way more at ease that way. Having the reminder in the room, too, was very helpful and they encourage you to use it if you need.

I am at that time as well!! :)

Interviews were great. :).... and so now the wait to be accepted or not starts now. =-) hehe oh so stressful! Good luck to everyone. I met a lot of nice people. Everyone has a right to be accepted. As the Associate Director said everyone is so diverse. This will be a good group going through hopefully, just based off of a few of the people that I met yesterday.

I agree currycur. The people I met yesterday were all incredible! I can't imagine any of them not being accepted. It must be such a difficult process choosing the people for the program when everyone in the interviews have SO much to offer.

overall i was very satisfied with the process and felt like the questions really helped us showcase our personality/critical thinking/ communication skills.

i was just wondering if anyone else had a hard time talking for the full 6 minutes? i know the said the interviewers are looking more at the content, not length of our answers...

now the waiting game begins! good luck to everyone :)

I felt it went okay - when I went in, I wasn't nervous and was fairly excited to answer the questions. However, a couple of the interviewers were completely neutral - they didn't nod or say anything and now I am second guessing myself. I did end up talking pretty much the full 6 minutes so hopefully not too much of that was rambling :D

Sounds like it will be a few weeks until we find out!

I definately didnt talk the full 6 minutes. I was told not to ramble.

Yes I think I only talked about the question the full 6 minutes for one of them. It was fun to talk the interviewers about what they do etc, for the questions I still had remaining time left over and I think it helped me feel more at ease for the next station as well.
