UBC Nursing - September 2013

World Canada CA Programs

Hey Everyone!

I'm hoping to apply for UBC nursing 2013, but I am a little worried as I haven't volunteered for 2 years. My question is, if I get back into volunteering this summer will my chances of being accepted be higher?

Thank you!

Definitely spend time volunteering if you really love helping people. Perhaps get some volunteer experience in a hospital? =)

Check out the UBC Nursing 2012 message thread and read through! That will really help you out! all the best! =)

Volunteering definitely helps, but in my experience the most important part is the "essay" part of the application where you write why want to be a nurse (or some similar question like that). I had what others may consider to be "little volunteer experience" in comparison to the other students in my cohort (only 1.8 years' worth, and it wasn't very many hours as it was once a month).

Of course, that's not to say it's not important, I just don't want you to stress out too much about it! :)

I am also applying for this intake! I definately think recent volunteer work would help out.

I am also hoping to get into UBC's September 2013 intake... Very concerned about my grades, though. I went on exchange to Japan for a year and had some grade issues that I worked out with my university at home. However, since UBC requires separate transcripts I worry that all the work I did to fix my grades will be undone! I'd be transferring in from the University of Manitoba. Nothing is worse than the feeling of not knowing what grades are going to be deemed transferrable or not, until January!! >.

Volunteer work is great, hospitals always need volunteers. I work in the Immunology Laboratory and I always see ads asking for help for the gift shop and such. :D

aaah I am super nervous, what do your grades look like if you dont mind me asking lol

To be competitive I believe you need to have at least 78% in your last 30 credits.

Hi Everyone!

I'm also applying for the 2013 intake! I'm super nervous about the interview. From what I understand, both volunteering and grades are weighted equally! So, as long as we are "balanced" we should be alright! : )

It's 60/40. 40 percent supplemental

Oops, my bad haha I seriously thought I read "weighted equally" somewhere, but I guess that was for something else! Thanks for clearing that up! : )

Hey Guys:)

I am hoping to get into the UBC nursing program this year as well!

Yes grades are important, but they really look at the supplemental. Last year the average was 79%

but there were a lot of people who had lower GPAs that got interviews because they had really strong supplemental.

One of my friends who had an amazing GPA didn't even get an interview because his supplemental was so weak, while my other friend had a very strong supplemental and a GPA around 75%.

Hey all--

I'm working on the Supplemental App right now, while I'm home for break.

Just wanted to find out how others are formatting their responses to the questions. Initially, I just had a list of my schooling, activities, and roles with dates in brackets, but I feel like I would benefit more from a paragraph-like response.

Basically, do you think it's more about quality (just a few 'points' with detailed explanations) or quantity (many 'points' with little explanation)?

Thanks so much and I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays!
