UBC Nursing - September 2013

Published

Hey Everyone!

I'm hoping to apply for UBC nursing 2013, but I am a little worried as I haven't volunteered for 2 years. My question is, if I get back into volunteering this summer will my chances of being accepted be higher?

Thank you!

Hey jsjkim. I too am still waiting, the wait sure is agonizing. I think we have to try and stay positive and hope for the best. I'm in a similar boat as you so lets hope we get good news soon!

I haven't heard either. I don't think they're sending invites anymore :( I had a high GPA and a degree so I'm a little upset. Onto the next !

In previous years they sent invitations over the course of several days to several weeks. I doubt they sent all 200 out yesterday... or at least, I'm really hoping not :( .

Let's not get discouraged guys, there is still hope I'm sure :) .

@cat5

Don't worry too much, in previous years it always took around a week for them to send out invites. Today is only the 3rd day. Stay positive!

Let's stay positive! :)

ehlehnah I am applying as an international student I haven't heard back yet :( ..I just moved to Vancouver a couple of weeks ago from Los Angeles California. I am hoping to get an interview with UBC I love the campus and program that they have to offer. I really don't want to move back to LA nursing schools in LA are so impacted with long waiting lists. I am worried that I do not have enough volunteer experience I have 1 year clinical care experience in a hospital. I have a previous bachelors degree (not health related) and a 3.6 GPA . Are you living in Vancouver now? How much volunteer experience do you have? I am getting so anxious I hope we hear from them soon!!
Let's stay positive! :)

Yes we must! Even though it may be hard we still have lots of time left to hear.

Hello everyone , a big congratulation to those that have receive the invitation. I been following everyone's comment religiously when I notice that some of us are about to lose hope I decided to contact the admission officer. She said that they are sending 200 invitation emails and at the same time declined emails. She said they are sending invites today, tomorrow and next week Tuesday. So please everyone have patient and stay positive :)

Thanks for that SoniaArya. also remember that those who receive the invites must either accept or decline, and as they decline (some might - other offers, change of plans) UBC will fill the spots with those who are next in the standing, so don't lose hope.

Thank you SoniaArya and wuckely. Definitely a needed boost of hope and optimism! :)

today anyone?

I'm actually from San Diego, hello neighbor! Any who, I'm not living in Vancouver. Still live here but I've applied to two different schools. Have you looked into an accelerated program with those with a bachelors degree? The one I'm applying to is not as highly competitive since its getting close to being impacted. I have close to seven years of volunteer experience with being a medic aide in walks/runs as well as over 500 hours of hospital volunteering in hospice, physical therapy, mental health, etc. My GPA is a 3.31 but my last 30 was around 3.6. I'm also doing a medical assistant course on the side for more clinical experience and I've worked at an elderly care home doing small stuff like vitals. I hope they consider that I speak and write Spanish because its a huge skill to have and I was involved with student government at my university. I have no idea about my chances...I say not because I'm not a Canadian citizen. Lets hope for the best!!! I bet you'll get in with at least having clinical background and a great GPA.
