UBC BSN September 2017

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

:)

I am so nervous. This sucks. I also just get more and more pessimistic. UBC is the only school I applied to. I know I probably should not have put all my eggs in one basket but that's the risk I was willing to take.

My friend said the prof from UBC said the average admitted GPA was gonna be 5-6% than other years...so 86-88% average which is very high in my opinion.

I am betting a lot of money that we will find out at 4:59PM PST on Friday :p

I too have only applied to UBC, and understand the pessimism. Keeping my fingers crossed

That is pretty remarkable pretty much an A to A+ average

Another day, another few cardiac issues when emails pop on the screen... Goodluck everyone! We should know by fridays end and we can sleep better (I know my sleeps have been getting more restless, not sure about you guys).

As for the 86 average, damn... From what I see though, lots of you guys here on the forum have lots of good supplemental experience so lets hope that works out in our favours!

Dang that 86 average is concerning!! I haven't applied this year but will apply next year... so just checking out applications right now so I'm prepared for the next time around. But damn that's high. I think my last year average is 82 or 83 (I first made the mistake and thought it was last 2 years because I didn't know what "30 credits" meant lol). UBC was actually a school I was feeling the most confident about since it requires a supplemental application and most schools (except UofT) don't and are solely based on GPA. But now I'm even more worried than I was!

Two more days to go! We can get through this everyone!! I must admit though, this week has been a very hard week to get through haha.

This is feeling a bit ridiculous, they said they would inform EVERYONE by the end of April. That's unfair for people who might get waitlisted cause then that would mean they would have wait until mid may... I wish they would just tell people... for those wondering this is the subject they used last year "UBC School of Nursing - Admission Offer" and this is what were the first few lines "SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION TO THE BSN PROGRAM

Dear NAME,

Congratulations!

The Admissions Committee reviewed applications from many highly qualified candidates this year and we are pleased to offer you admission to the BSN Program for the September 2016 class. This is an advanced standing accelerated program so you will need to be prepared for full-time study over five consecutive terms, including the summer of 2017 (with a brief vacation period in August).

This offer is subject to you having all of the program admission prerequisites completed, and outstanding official transcripts, submitted by June 15, 2016."

I hope we all hear back soon!

Hi all,

I'm a current nursing student at UBC and I just popped in to see if you had received letters yet! For those of you worried about the admissions average, stop. I applied last year with an 80 average and was in the bottom 25%, so from what some of you have been saying, I doubt the overall GPAs of applicants has changed. Also, the admissions average for successful applicants was in the low 80s last year, which means that people above AND below that got in. Think about it: are smarter, more successful people applying each year? Probably not. UBC prides itself in cultivating a diverse cohort each year, so I think it's unlikely that they'll spontaneously start putting more value on people with high averages. No one knows better than nurses that straight As don't equal competence in the field. They're looking for hardworking people with spirit!... And some super geniuses too. Also, for those of you who will be wait listed, don't worry too much if you don't hear for a while after the deadline on June 15th. I didn't get an offer until June 22nd!

Yeah I completely agree with pleaseletmein. You should also take everything you're hearing with a grain of salt. Just because your friend heard from a prof who said something doesn't mean it's true. Two parts of the application are not even gpa based! So stop worrying about the gpa, as long as you have at least a 75% average you have a shot. I'm only saying 75% because that's what I applied with last year and I got an interview.

Good morning everyone! So exciting that we'll be hearing back from UBC today or tomorrow! :)

I agree with @bcastle and @pleaseletmein. We've already heard one rumour that was dispelled by a quick phone call to admissions (that there were, indeed, only 550 applicants, and not close to 900). None of us are in the position to determine the likelihood of getting accepted.. and it doesn't do anything for our nerves to speculate about our odds. Our fate, most likely, has already been decided by a panel of very qualified admissions officers. Keep your chins up, try to stay as positive as possible, and trust in the process. One way or another, this year, next year, or sometime in the future, you will begin your journey toward a career in nursing! I have faith that I will be lucky enough to work alongside you amazingly dedicated and passionate people in the future.

Fingers crossed for today!! Good luck everyone, I hope for goods news for all of you! I hope that you make it through the next 48 hours with as little stress as possible, as hard as that may be.

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!
