  1. I would recommend looking for places in Kitsilano, Dunbar, Kerrisdale, or around Cambie/Broadway. They're all a bit more central but are within a 30ish minute bus ride to UBC. If you view UBC on a map, you'll notice it's actually quite out of the way. If you get placed at VCH, Richmond, Surrey, etc, it's a bit nicer to live more central. I live in Kitsilano and couldn't be happier! It's close to the beach, has amazing restaurants, and only takes 20 minutes to get to UBC by bus. I would suggest looking on Craigslist and Kijiji for rentals. Clinical in first semester was either Tuesday/Wednesday or Saturday/Sunday, and it was really luck of the draw. There were 10 options (ex. UBC Hospital Tuesday/Wednesday, UBC Hospital Saturday/Sunday, VCH Tuesday/Wednesday, etc, etc), and you ranked your preferences from 1-10 online. The website worked its magic and gave us all a placement. I was lucky and got my #1. Some of my friends were not lucky and got their #9 or #10. It's completely random and you just have to sort of go with it. Everyone is going to have a different experience, but I am personally enjoying this program immensely. I've made friends that I know I will have for life, and we've laughed and cried together through the best and worst times. Although the program is tough (like... very tough), we still have enough time for self care, and we definitely indulge from time-to-time! Being a part of the NUS has also been great and I recommend looking into it if you'd like to be more involved. :)
  2. I completed my BSc in 2016 with a good GPA. My work experience included 2 years at a University and 1 year in the provincial government. I volunteered for a sexual health clinic for 2 years, Canadian Blood Services for 1 year, in a Tanzanian hospital for 5 weeks, and as a Peer Mentor in my undergraduate degree for 2 years. I also co-founded a non-profit charity organization (animal rescue). With all this being said, my friends in the program have completely different backgrounds. Some had minimal volunteer experience but lived abroad for a year. Some had only finished 2-3 years of their first undergrad degree. So if you don't have a ton of work experience, volunteer experience, or your GPA isn't that high, don't worry. Hopefully you highlighted your strengths in your application and the admissions team will see that :)
  3. Hi Everyone! I'm a current student in the UBC Nursing program (2017-2019) and I look forward to meeting many of you in August! I can sympathize with you all - the waiting game is the worst. I remember this time last year, checking my email 10 times a day even though I knew acceptances/rejections wouldn't be going out until the end of April. With that being said, since I have moved to Vancouver and started the program, time has FLOWN by. It's amazing to think that first year is coming to an end and we'll be welcoming the incoming cohort in just a few short months! If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask! I'll do my best to answer them (although my responses might be delayed since finals are next week). I'm also the Executive Vice President of the Nursing Undergraduate Society (NUS) so I can answer questions about getting more involved with the NUS and other things. :) Best of luck to you all!
  4. UBC will most likely be changing their admission requirements for the September 2018 intake. I recommend checking their website frequently for updates regarding any changes to required prerequisites and/or their admission process. For this year's intake, they took the last 30 credits (one year of full-time studies) to calculate your GPA. Hope this helps! :)
  5. I searched your name on FB and sent you a PM. You may have to check your Message Requests to find it :)
  6. Congratulations! I've sent you a PM :)
  7. I received my offer via email. My Join UofT changed to "Admitted" 3 days later, and my OUAC offer appeared 4 days later.
  8. Thank you so much @triNurse2017 :)
  9. @aly13 - Are you a part of the Facebook group? Might be easier to chat there! I've just emailed UBC and asked them some questions about the transcript requirement :)
  10. @aly13 - do you know if there's a minimum % we must finish the course with? I assume it's 70%, but I couldn't find that info in the acceptance letter we got. When are you planning on writing the final? :)
  11. I started this course January 10th, and I'll be done on May 9th. I'm not going to lie... it's been a lot of work. You have to teach yourself all the material by reading a textbook. It's incredibly dry. But it won't negatively impact your chances - I got accepted and I'm not done yet :)
  12. I have declined my offer to Western and I will be declining my offer to UofT as I was accepted to UBC. Best of luck to everyone! :)
  13. @EtherealRailgun - totally understandable! It must be incredibly tough to have to wait even longer. Hopefully that wait will be well worth it for you! :)
  14. @EtherealRaingun I think the odds are very good! Last year, #19 got an offer on either June 20th or 21st, and I know of two people on this forum who received acceptances but are choosing other schools!
  15. To those who did not receive acceptances this time around, please do not give up hope. I look forward to seeing all of you when you begin your journey with UBC in 2018! And to those who received acceptances, I look forward to meeting you in August! Please join the Facebook group so we can connect before the start of first semester. :) UBC BSN Cohort 2017-2019.
