UBC BSN September 2015 Applicants

Published

Alright who's applying to the UBC Vancouver BSN September 2015 intake? I'm a second year UBC science student who's applying :) Let's all support and communicate with each other for registration help and processing !

Hi, congratulations to everyone who got their interview!

I actually thought it through this year and decided to go for my re-admission next year. Please help me out here!

1)What did everyone have for volunteer/experience/work? Can anyone who got the interview share with me all the things you put in the supplemental?

2)can you comment on the lengths of these volunteering? Did you have similar length shorter/longer? does it matter?

3)What do you think I can improve or add to get an interview?

4)How did everyone write their paragraphs? I guest just mindlessly listing all these won't do the job...?:S

I have around 74-75% which is a pretty low average, and had bit of volunteering experience which were not too long,

and won't go into details...:

-Volunteer at hospital (about an year)

-volunteer at elder home for (7months)

-volunteer at health home care with people with disabilities (6 months)

-volunteer to tutor adults with no education (8 months)

-volunteering with team of people to provide care/resource providing over Skype (8 months)

-Short internship over winter in India, working in hospital care every weekdays (1 month)

-3 years of school executive position and currently the Vice president- may apply to president position next year.

-1 year working as a secretary (paid undergraduate job)

-taught clarinet at an elementary school for (4 months)

-was a worship leader in church, playing and leading the orchestra (2 years)

-was a waitress at a restaurant for 5 months

Please, please share your comments and you can be totally honest :S That`s really what I need too.

Again, congrats to all fellow nurse-to-bes :)!!

Hey.

Looks like your volunteer experience is awesome! Maybe you could take some extra courses and work on your gpa?.. maybe atleast to a 77%??

I've read in other forums as well.. its not really what you did.. its how you say it.. how you sell yourself

for example) what I did was relate things to nursing. So if I tutored.. I wrote how its applicable to nursing.. changing you approach based on your students skills/abilities..think outside the box with the supplemental application. add in your thoughts/beliefs in your skills..

ex) I did volunteering in peru. and I wrote a bit about I realized how lucky we are in canada..etc..

Goodluck!! hope this helps..

Thanks so much.

Really, your honest opinion/advices help so much :'(

Hey guys, does anyone know from past experience approx how many people turn down their interviews/ cancel? Or does anyone know how many people off the waitlist ended up getting an interview last year?

Hey guys, so I got a rejection email yesterday. They told me my grades were Rank 1 - top 25%, but my supplementary application was ranked 4 - lowest 25%. I thought I had pretty good volunteer experience and wrote a solid essay so I was a little shocked to hear this. Would anyone who got an interview be willing to share their essay/volunteer experience? I applied to a few other schools with pretty much the same essay (with small modifications) but haven't heard back from them yet.... learning UBC ranked me 4th scares me now.

I have an interview for the 22nd after being wait listed. :):) Anyone around winnipeg want to practice interviews ?

Hi noraabdoh, I was just wondering what your placing was on the waitlist? I'm currently on the waitlist too but I havent heard back. Thanks! :)

I'm also on the reserve list. Super nervous!

I was number 2. I hope you get bumped up!

hi esleelj & j_essim_ac!

A practice session sounds great! maybe early next week?

Im in Calgary and have an interview April 17. Anyone interested in preparing for the MMI together, either in the city or via Skype?

I'm down for a little Skype session. But I won't be able to until after the 13th. I'm finishing up the A&P. My interview is on the 17th also.
