UA MEPN 2020

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!

Marina.

Interviews done, yay. Hope you guys did well. It was definitely a good experience, regardless the outcome.

Congrats to everyone who did the interview! Hoping the best for all of us! Fingers crossed! Just wondering does anyone know how many they usually accept from the interview?!

They accept 132 students - 66 at each campus.

Interviews seemed to go really well! I know that they have a little over 120 seats I believe (between both campuses). I have no idea how many interviewed. I was in the 12:00 group and we appeared to have about 20-24 people interviewing then.

If it was every half hour from 9 till 12- that makes 7 time slots. Let's say 24 people per time slot - that's 168 interviews in person... unsure of how many online.

I think last year they said they interviewed about 160.

Anyone with more accurate information? Do you all feel that was about the amount in your time slots too?

I think you are right because there was about 24 in my time slot. I’m guessing they probably interviewed around 170 including video interviews

When I spoke with Brandi on Thursday, she said they would be interviewing 200 and will offer 132 seats, plus alternates (not sure how many). Hope everyone had a good interview. Mine didn't go as well as I thought it would, but keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh boy. 200 stresses me out. My interview didn’t go as well as I had hoped either, I felt like I rambled a bit. I guess we wait and see.

Same same keeping fingers crossed!

I totally rambled in my interview. Both interviewers were so stoic without any facial expression which made me ramble even more ??. So glad we should know possibly as soon as this Friday!!! Fingers crossed it will be one week and not two when we find out.

I'm curious why some of you thought your interview didn't go well? Are you just being too critical of yourself? ❤️ Get in some self care if you didn't yet!

Edit to add my own reflection: I know for myself I rambled a bit at the beginning, but I also am a huge self-critic!

For me it’s probably because I tend to overthink a lot and I’m probably overthinking. Thank you for checking in!

Wish I felt some relief after the interview, but now the wait is even more nerve racking! I am trying not to over think any of my answers or nitpick too much... Everyone was nervous and rambling a bit is definitely to be expected! Best of luck to all!

I honestly can’t even remember my answers lol I for sure rambled, but I tried my best to not look extremely nervous and be personable. At some point one of the faculty started to yawn and I was like oh noooo...
