Hi everyone,
I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!
Marina.

Yes; awesome, I think you nailed it since pre-session was the start date last year based on the calendar.
Hello everyone! Current UA MEPN student here. I am in the middle of being super busy with assignments, but really wanted to reach out and give you some heads up that I wish I had!
-The interviews are pretty chill. I would bring a printed copy of a detailed resume to refer to, but they likely won't take it from you. Things to have notes about include why you want to be a nurse and do this program. What things you like to do in your free time, past experiences that set you apart like volunteering, etc. But most importantly, be personable. I was very confident and had fun talking during my interview which I think helped me get in! Don't be afraid!
-You will not be earning an MSN, you will be getting a masters in nursing entry which makes you a "masters prepared nurse (RN)" but it is not an MSN. Your title at the end of the program will be MS-RN. and most other schools and employers will see your license as being equivalent to a BSN, but you will have masters level qualities.
-Schedule: it will be different for all semesters, and MONTHS even. You will not be able to work a job, not even part time, because your schedule will be EXTREMELY unpredictable! Only if your job is at night, and extremely flexible and easy. Bonus if you can study at work for like, 90% of your shift. But don't expect yourself to work, it's going to make you crazy.
-Don't buy the FA Davis bundle, you don't need physical books. You can just buy access codes as needed and they come with e-books, which is WAY more convenient than a physical book. Seriously. I would recommend buying the dosage calculations book (which you will use a bit) as a physical copy, and maybe the assessment book for your first class.
-You can buy scrubs from those that are graduating and wear their used scrubs. It really doesn't matter that much if your scrubs are brand new, or previously learned-in.
- Orient yourself to D2L before school starts, if you get in. Also, you will have to take out about $40-$45k in loans if you are in state, more if you are out of state, and because it is grad school, the interest starts accruing before you graduate (un-subsidized). You don't have to pay for a few months after you graduate though.
-The program will start mid May, and end halfway through the following august for a total of about 15 months of jam-packed learning. ? You get about 4 weeks off for Christmas, a week in March for spring break, and then not much time off until graduation! The first month of each semester is very stressful and fast-paced, and then it lets up a bit and you can breath again.
-Good Luck!

I just do not want to over dress. (As a fail safe I may just wear something I can throw a blazer over if needed)
At the end of the email they sent w the time of our interview was the following which gives dress guidelines (professional) as well as possible interview questions. It’s always better to be overdressed for an interview than underdressed ? Good luck tomorrow everyone!!!!❤️❤️❤️

The email they sent out with the MEPN interview guide recommended business professional.

I do not own a full pantsuit and could not find any while shopping last weekend I am wearing black dress pants, a nice blouse with a black full sleeve blazer, and nice black loafers. It said on the sheet this is ok I was just worried because the picture example is a full suit and very formal. Hopefully, they will not be nitpicking our outfits and will really focus on who we are!

I am wearing a full on suit--it's the only suit I have. I'm sure if you look professional it will be fine.
Tomorrow is the day you guys! I'm trying not to be nervous but the nerves are just getting to me now...I've been waiting so long to pursue this. Good luck to everyone. I also just wanted to thank all of the current MEPNers who provided tips and advice. You have been so helpful. Thanks!!!!
Current MEPN student:
Many girls wore full suit with a jacket or dress. But I just wore a pretty tunic from white house black market with dress pants and low wedge heels and I got accepted. You need to dress to look professional, but I don't think you have to wear a jacket. I don't recommend jeans or anything like that. Dress like it's an interview, but not like, a business interview IF YOU DON'T WANT TO. I hate wearing suit coats, so that's why I went with a tunic. What matters more is how you act and what you have to say during your interview. Dress comfortably so that you feel confident is my advice! If you like full suits, do it ?

The U of A offers different length summer courses. MEPN being an untraditional program doesn’t operate off of the same course lengths for summer, but my guess is that they have to start at the same date traditional summer classes do, which this year is the 18th.
