UA MEPN 2020

Updated:   Published

Hi everyone,

I'm considering MEPN application to the UofA next year. I've been in touch with the advisor, Chris Sogge, for the past 3 years. I have a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.Sc. in Biology from Canada . Chris said that I need a pre-req GPA of 3.7 at least to get into the program; mine is 3.3. Do I stand any chances? Did anyone get in with lower pre-req grades? I'm trying to juggle pre-req taking with a toddler. Thanks so much for your advice!

Marina.

The recalculated gpa on the application was lower than what I expected; I don't even remember... So if I get in, I'll post my stats lol.

I'm wondering where you all selected as preferred campus. I'm Tucson only (I bought a house here 6 months ago!). I'm nervous that it's the more competitive campus ?

I’m scared that everyone wants Phoenix. Hopefully it’s an even split ?

Sounds like those of us on here all have pretty similar stats. @hopeful_student don’t worry about the nerves pretty sure that was the majority of us. Does anyone feel like they nailed the interview??? Come on you can tell us! I wasn’t even that nervous till I walked in then my voice went shaky and I totally rambled and at the end of the 4th question I was mid sentence and looked at the time and was worried I wouldn’t have time for the last question so mid sentence just said .... um so yeah... and passed the paper to the other person ?‍♀️?

The more I think about my interview, the more I think I rambled. You could definitely tell that my answers were spontaneous compared to my partner’s. I was asked 5 questions. My friend also interviewed & she said she was only asked 4 questions.

I put Tucson only. I wasn’t nervous until I saw the amount of people being interviewed & how good everyone looked.

I felt really good coming out of my interview, but the more I think about it the worse I think I did! I am hoping my gut feeling was right though! I am not very confident in my prereq GPA or my HESI but I have a lot of unique clinical experience which I am hoping will help me out. Seeing everyone's stats and I am sure you guys killed your interviews as well makes me feel that I will not get accepted. But here's to hoping!

I put Phoenix and I feel that most people I talked to wanted Phoenix as well but I do not think that your campus preference will at all sway whether you get accepted or not. I think that if you put one that is already filled but still rank in the top 132 they will put you in the campus with left over spots if that makes sense. I wonder how many alternates they choose and how many end up getting a spot in the program.

I was not nervous for the interview. We had 5 questions... pretty straight forward. I didn't practice the questions before hand so all of my answers were spontaneous. I feel like, for me, that ensures I don't sound too robotic.

However, I am older and have interviewed a few times in my life. The questions were pretty standard.

I felt really confident with my answers, I rambled a little, but that's to be expected.

Everyone I met looked awesome and presented themselves well. I can only know I did my best and if it doesnt work out this time there are other years, other schools, other opportunities.

I am only accepting Phoenix as it is my husband and 2 kids here.

How can you tell the recalculated GPA?

On your application did it show your last 60? Mine didn’t ?only my pre reqs I think. I’ve heard tucson in the more competitive campus. I think asu or another college in phx has a similar program??? Maybe that’s why people from up there also apply to uofa??? Not certain though. I also am tucson only ?

I don't think it showed last 60 on the app.

I do not see a lat 60 GPA, but I also do not see a "prerequisite GPA" on my application... did that auto populate or are you guys calculating your own based on the grades you input to the prerequisite GPA section?

I don't see that either actually. Only an overall one in the application.

I think you might be right. My prereqs was a 4.0 so I think I just thought that since there was a separate section w pre req grades. So hoping I calculated my last 60 right ?and how would we know if they didn’t calculate our gpa right and that’s why we didn’t get an offer? ?at least that’s one of the many thoughts I’m already having and haven’t event gotten the email yet lol.
