Purely hypothetical... IF Hillary Clinton gets elected and IF she pushes through her socialized medicine plan then what would happen to the payscale for U.S. nurses? Would it drop $10 an hour per nurse?
I know these are big IF's and I am not here to argue if her plan could ever work but I am just trying to plan ahead in case it DOES happen.
Also I cant seem to find anything to tell me how much nurses make in the socialized medicine countries like canada or united kingdom. Does anyone know how much these nurses make on average?
I don't see where the original post was so bad, truthfully. He HYPOTHESISED a scenario then asked a valid question. He then stated clearly in another post that he didn't want to make the mistake of going into nursing if the pay were to drop, as he's experienced that already in another profession. This debate was "riled up" and made political, in large part by you, because you took umbrage with the fact that the OP took the Hilldabeast's name in vain in relation to his question. He was seeking information and ideas. Plain and simple. Not everyone here has a political agenda. Actually there are some of us on here who don't give two flips about politics, and there are others who don't understand the various planks and platforms of each contender for the presidency. To wag your finger
at the OP and accuse him of purposely getting people "riled up" and then "pleading innocence" is totally ridiculous.
Gotta agree here and while I hate to fan the flames.. I thought we put to rest any issues with Hillary a page or two ago??
I thought we were back on the general topic on the upcoming election and it's effects on nursing pay?
I think the OP has already admitted his posting etiquette wasn't up to par and made any necessary apologies.. we should probably honor that and avoid a flame war
You are right, you shouldn't have, but at least you have the heart to take back what you said unlike some of the rest of the people on this forum. i dont know why anytime any one discusses anything, people on this forum have to take it upon them selves to make it personal and be all out rude. all it was, was his opinion and a question. there is no point in even trying to ask a question or start a conversation, when all you get back is negativety instead of objective, adult conversation.
mmm..........."anytime anyone discusses anything" it's rude? Why would anyone hang out in a forum like that? We're not that bad are we?
Moderators always appreciate when members report these things.
Anyway, we can move on and stick on topic. Thanks.

some are that bad. i hang out in the forum to be a part of the nursing community and fellowship online just like everyone else i suspect does. of the two months that i have been a member, almost every single forum i go into, someone just has to reply with some off the wall, sarcastic, rude remarks that has no bearing what so ever on what's being discussed. it's almost as if you dont share their point of view then you are labeled as an idoit, which was clearly seen by some of the remarks in this forum and it's unnecessary. i am a nursing student and it makes me very leary that the same pessimists that i see responses from are the types of people i am going to be dealing with at work. we all share the same profession and should all have respect for each other. i have heard how many RN's already in the field "eat their young", but goodness, it kind of seems to be true based on the responses i have been seeing in several of the threads.
Do you have a few examples by chance?
I'm on several boards (the others are non-nursing related) and the fellowship here is astounding next to them.
I've felt that for the most part, the community here, is awesome. But that's my own experience. I'm sure though, that if you felt unduly bullied or responded to, it was either the way your post came across or indeed pms'ing posters.
However if it's the latter, the good news is that you likely have a little recourse - the mods here are pretty good at handling complaints and trolls :)

Unfortunately negativity occurs I agree. It seems to be on the upswing during the holidays when more nurses are stressed and students are on break. I was just taking exception with your exaggeration that everytime anyone brings up anything because there are literally thousands of posts and discussions going on, the overwhelming majority are going well. That's the picture I take and don't allow the negatively to blind me to the good of the site. Nor do I allow a few nurses that eat their young jade me into thinking that I belong to a profession that eats their young.
As always, please report any offensive posts. We don't allow members to label each other as idiots. We also can be the ones who are positive, who agree to disagree with maturity and respect, and don't get drawn into any negativity.
Also, best we drop this disucsion as I'm highjacking the thread. Thanks.

No worries :) Online communication is always so hard because smiley faces still do little to replace the smiles and subtle body language you get in real communication :)

Yes, thankfully not everyone here has a 'political agenda'.
I have to agree with the nurses that think that we are not paid enough as it is right now. I cannot afford to lose $10.00 an hour. I am going to college and putting a child through college, another child is graduating high school and yet one more in junior high. I am a widow and unable to survive on mless money. I find Hillary Clinton to be a shadow to her husband and hopefully she won't make it. I must admit that I am not sure Obama is a whole lot better. We waste medical dollars in this country. We maintain life at any age no matter what the cost just because families are unwilling to allow the dying to do just that. I am not trying to be cruel and I think that all of you have had a few of these type patients. When patients are admitted we test for everything under the sun just because we can, not because the patient needs them but, because we can. Patients are left on the vent because we can cure them even though they are 92, had dementia for years and their lives are dependent on our LTC people. I can't make doctors listen to me about the money we waste. They just think that they are Gods. I think that maybe they are the ones who need a pay cut.:angryfire I love my job but, not enough to work for nothing.
