Hi!
I'm so excited. I just found out that I got selected to interview for U of A's ASBSN program! :w00t:
In the email it said to bring my top three choices for healthcare sponsors. I'm not familiar with Tucson, so I'm wondering, what would be good choices?
TIA
Not sure where I am going to live - I hate renting an apartment for 3 years, so I am trying to do some financial planning to see if I can afford to buy a small condo. Not hopeful though. I really like the foothills area of town in the North, but I am wondering if that will be too far away from campus and the hospitals - especially with the unbelievable amount of traffic I witnessed during the interview weekend (how is there no highway in a town of 1 million people?!?!?). I would like to here from people who went to UofA for undergrad or has lived in Tucson (since I have only spent about 48 hours there in my entire life) as to what the nicer/safer/best/ parts of town are.
I'm still really excited! :)
UMC for me.
I10 goes right through town... unfortunately they are rebuilding it for the next couple of years... I think I saw that it will be done by the time we finish our contracts! :)
I wanted to pick up a small house and get some house mates from the program; but, for some reason I don't think I'll be able to swing a loan with no income...
So I'm looking for a rental room too.
Chris and I spend 2 days driving around during Christmas break checking out areas and distances. She agreed that there were lots of acceptable areas... I think I'm just going to make sure I'm on the East side of I10.
Congrats!
Mark

I've lived in Tucson over twenty years. Yes, our freeway goes AROUND the city, not through. Most people would recommend living east of the freeway. Also, the more north you go, the lower the crime rate. It's a hard balance to find - safety v. your budget as a student. I live on the northeast side, and it's worth the drive, IMHO.
Most people would recommend staying away from areas south, west, and many central areas. There are pockets of desirable areas central, near the university. It might work to rent a house and have quite a few roomies to offset the expensive housing rates.
I think traffic was exceptionally bad during the interview weekend for two reasons. 1) the Gem Show was going on then, which draws tons of visitors every year and 2) it was raining (which is rare and people tend not to know how to deal).
I went to Arizona for undegrad (graduated in 2000). My last two years of school I lived in La Entrada apmts. which I loved (and is close to campus) but they don't accept more than one pet and I have a cat and planning on getting a dog. I'm also interested in looking in the foothills area North but wonder if I'll regret being so far away from campus.
Hi hi hi hi hi hi!!
I'm still so excited. :) I put Carondelet as my first choice - and that's what I got. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh!
Questions - The attachment in the admission email was only 2 pages, right? It appears that the official admission packet that is coming this week will have a bit of paperwork to track down and send back. Also, in the contract that was received by email, do we have to mail it back, or was it just for us to review?
Re housing: I would be fine getting an apartment by myself, but I would also be interested in renting a house with 1 or 2 other students in the ASBSN program for the duration of the program. Thanks for all the tips on what areas of Tucson to look at!! That helps a lot! How far, in terms of both distance and time, is it from the NE side to the school? What areas have the worst traffic?

congratulations everyone. Just curious, what hospital did you choose?
