TWU Spring 2009

Published

Hello everyone just wanted to see if there were anymore hopeful spring 2009 applicants out there. I submitted my application already and just sitting back waiting till Nov when acceptance/rejection letters are sent out. I know they said for us to check out emails everyday in October. If anyone has been through the application process before please share your experience. Good luck to everyone :wink2:

I'm not sure what other factors there could even be? They don't have much info on us. Just our grades, where we have gone to school, and our NET scores.

I'm so loving the support on this thread right now. Does anyone know of anyone who is not going to go to TWU that was accepted??? It would be great if someone would give up their seat. Who wants to go to TWU anyways :)

I agree, that is so messed up. Do yall think there are other factors that they are not telling us about?

You know, maybe i should not have shared the fact that i felt bad, and what my GPA is. I am one of those that got accepted with an original 3.6 GPA and received the .4 advantage. I believe we should have all got in, there just aren't enough teachers to teach all of us. I have known for along time about TWUs competitive programs! That is why i chose to do my pre-reqs there and not somewhere else. I could have easily gone to NCTC or another JR college and paid less and done much better. I know some of you are really upset - i don't blame you ... you worked hard to get where you are too - and it is hard to hear you weren't accepted into the program. I have had nightmares about not getting in for weeks.

BUT, please do not badger TWU or their processes too much - you should have known with investigation of the college that the advantage was there. Regardless of what my GPA is - the advantage is there. I have seen advantages given in point systems at most (if not all) of the Nursing programs. I came to this board for support and to give support -which up until now has been the case. Maybe we all need to put ourselves in others shoes before we type criticisms.

Then again, maybe i'm simply taking this too personal - and blowing it out of context. Either way - if we desire to be nurses...and we've gotten this far..then there is no reason to stop now. We are to go on and to great things no matter how we get there!

I'm sure no one meant harm just blowing off steam. I knew about the advantage but the school wouldn't give me the aide I needed so I had to go to a JC. So I knew it would be a chance I would be beat out but that's life. Can someone please tell me exactly what does the acceptance letter say??

My theory is that since you applied for Houston and Dallas, the Houston campus probably has a lower GPA cutoff. (Probably because of the .4 TWU student adjustment). Did nursetobe12 only apply to Dallas?

This is a very difficult process, but I am going to talk with my counselors and see about other schools. I just get annoyed when they keep pushing me to enter their ADN program. I agree that retaking classes is a waste of time and money.

I am just glad we have our own little support system here, because other people don't understand how difficult it is for us to work so hard and still feel like we're not good enough. We should use this as fuel to inspire us to work harder.

Now listen everyone...a lot of things in life are not fair and we each have trying times to go through.

There are not other factors only GPA and net scores...that is the truth!

Those that did not get in we will. This is the time you should not get discouraged because when you let disappointing times creep in you give in and surrender and none of us are here to do that.

Think about it...you have a patient that is dying and you decide oh well he/she is dying why do anything else. We are going to be nurses great ones at that and we would not give up on a patient till the last breath is taken.

This is the variable that separates us from others. If we give up we give our opportunities to others.

Are you wanting me to type the whole thing? What is it that you want to know? I'd be glad to give you any information that i can.

Well the Houston campus is where I really want to go. I just want to know in general what it says. I wouldn't want you to type the whole thing

I think you are just getting a little carried away. Princess just wants to know more about the program, and it is exciting for her and for all of us. If you don't want to share then don't share. No one is going to press you.

I think we all agree that the program is difficult to get into, right? But each of us is allowed to our own opinions. Some of us don't like the .4 advantage, and some of us do! That's all there is to it. Can't we all just support each other?

To all of those who didn't get in (or wait-listed), keep trying and don't give up! For those who did get in, you have nothing to be upset about.

It is from Dean Patricia Holden-Huchton, RN,DSN,CNE.

Of course this is a summary - not word for word..that's a long letter to type in a blog.

It says the standard: "On the behalf of the CON, it is my pleasure ot inform you that you have been accepted.....for Spring 2009 semester.

It mentions the fact this admission is a highly competitive process and they commend me for my credentials that made me eligilble for admission.

The offer is contingent on completion of confirmation in writing of the acceptance and fulfillment of programmatic requirements.

Additional information is being sent from the program coordinator Dr. Debbie Tapler.

I got this information today explaining the dates/dealines for immunizations, CPR, orientation, Drug and background testing and clinical preference sheet.

**I do wish they had enough slots for all applicants! Each and every one of us are deserving of this admission!!!

If you were rejected or waitlisted, I would advise retaking the class you got the lowest grade in (if it's offered during winter break) and retaking the NET. I took the prep course (classified as continuing education, not a credit course) at El Centro for 4 hours on a Saturday and read the NET prep book that you can buy online. I think they really helped me. You have to learn how to take the test. Also, make sure you are texas "core" complete or you have to take some classes at TWU. Good luck everyone that's still waiting to hear or that got wait-listed. I know of at least one person that got into El Centro's fast-track ADN program that won't be going to TWU (she's doing it because of the time and money it saves and then she'll go ADN->BSN later, like at UTA - all online).

I have no problem sharing. I'm not "upset", I just got my feelings bruised because it felt like a personal attack since i did get in, and i have been nothing but supportive. I'm over it.
