TWU Spring 2008

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey everyone. I'm interested about joining TWU-Houston for Spring 2008. I completed all my pre-req's with a GPA of 3.2.

I've read in the forums that their cut off is 3.7. Is there anyway I can raise my GPA by re-taking classes? If so, which ones should I do over and what are the core classes they're looking at.

HI EVERYONE,

Well right now im completing my nursing core and im applying for TWU in the Spring 2008. I dont have a very good GPA, is a 3.74 and Im in the 96 percentile of reading and math, according to my NET test . Im sooo scared that Im not going to be able to make it TWU. Im only 19 yrs old, but I have the greatest passion and I have worked so hard for this.

Does anybody have any advise or does anyone know the GPA cut-off for the last few semesters?

Thanks,

bjane

what about for people who did not do their prereq's at TWU denton? Would they still have to take it?

When i attended a million years ago the only math they required was Statistics. I think the gpa cut off was around 3.5 but I honestly can't remember. I went to the Dallas campus so maybe all 3 locations are different???

Just to warn you though, when I attended they had a test called the HESI. Sort of a nursing aptitude test to see if you'd pass NCLEX or not. They made everyone stress out over it but it was really a piece of cake. I only mention it because if you didn't pass the HESI nursing test you did not graduate. My big problem with that was the degree was a Bachelor of SCIENCE that allowed ou to take the NCLEX, not specifically a BSN. There were several people in my class not awarded degrees only because they didn't pass that exam but still passed every course they took. So if you are a person who isn't a great test taker, I'd opt for another school.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hey bjane,

It sounds like you stand a really good chance, more so than you give yourself credit for. May I ask which campus (Hhouston or Denton) that you are applying to. I did not take my pre-reqs in Denton and the vast majority of us here on the Houston campus did not. Keep your chin up, I bet that you will be pleasantly suprised :)

Specializes in 5th Semester - Graduation Dec '09!.

I think I remember some girl that posted on here. She had applied to TWU, and was excepted with something like a 3.2 or 3.3. She had failed out her first semester of college, making it impossible to bring up her GPA to a 3.7 where the cut off was. She had 4.0 on science prerequisites and had gotten her act together after her first semester.

Apparently they looked past it and accepted her with a 3.2. I thought that was really cool.

They still have the HESI and there are still some students not passing the exam.

i asked a TWU rep about the Qualitative Math class.. She told me that applicants don't need it to apply.... they are going to implement that pre-req in the future but not right now. this is their "Transition" time... i guess they are going ahead and printing it out in their catalogs and putting the info up online for reference...

Specializes in NICU Level III.

i was accepted spring 2005 and the cutoff was 3.76. HESI is still around. you get 3 shots. i only know of one person that did not make it with those three tries. TWU awards a BS, not a BSN, which supposedly doesn't "pigeonhole" you into nursing.

Whats the difference between a BS and BSN? I dont get it, and which one is better. I thought they were all BSN

Wow. With that GPA and NET score you're in. Seriously, you have nothing to be afraid of. A lot of my class mates had around a 3.6 or 3.7. And don't worry about your age. Your energy and passion will more than make up for any youth. I'm 20 and my friend is 19. Both of us are more than holding our own with the other students, and the differences in age among students makes for a diverse class with lots of maturity and life experiences to learn from. I really enjoy the older students in my class. Some are late 40s and I think we have one that is 50. But they're awesome and they bring a lot of life experience and advice to the table.

Does anyone know of any other nursing school besides TWU that has the same pre reqs of TWU nursing. Everything I have checked requires 2 yrs of Spanish or different math classes or a religion or something. I would have to take another semester of stuff just to apply to another school?? Help! All these pre req classes for nursing should be standardiZed!

I believe they would want to see you have high scores in your science classes such as chemistry, micro, anatomy, physiology. If you have low scores in those areas, you might want to repeat them. I had to repeat one course in order to raise my score as well. Took it in the summer. It was easy to get it done.
