TWU Spring 2014 Applicants

Published

Hey everyone. I just wanted to start a thread for all of those hoping to get into TWU starting Spring 2014. My name is Kia and I have already sent in my application and completed my TEAS V exam. I'll be in the Denton campus patho class this fall (trying to wait patiently for an acceptance letter-GOD willing).

I bought TEAS 5 manual by ATI. The math was easy in my opinion, but very time consuming. Not a lot of word problems, its the equations that takes time. With that little time, you just have to be very accurate when you calculate problems the very first time. I didn't have a chance to go back to the problems and recheck my answers. I finished the math section 2-3 minutes before the time up. I felt like I was well prepared for math section but didn't make a 100% maybe because I was nervous and rushing, little mistakes often happen that way lol.

Are the math problems in the review the same as the real test? Meaning with the same concept? What about reading, how many long passages? Are they tricky? And for science what I need to know? Everybody say to many things that I don't even know what to study. I am using the macgraw hill and the teas book, but many people said that are not helpful. So many of the questions that are in the review, are not in the real test? So, what is the purpose of studying those practice tests!

What are the preferences you guys are talking about regarding TWU's NS admittance?

First attempt A in a&p 1 &2, micro and statistics. Each counts as one preference point. Average is three out of four. I only have two....nervous that I won't ever get in due to that...

Thank you for the encouraging words. Everyone keeps saying to have a backup plan...BUT: I stay at home with my three young kiddos and work nearly full time. I do not have the time or money to invest in a 'plan B.' I cannot apply to Houston because I live in Dallas with my family and we cannot move for school. It is TWU or bust lol. I fear that the 2/4 preferences has me doomed! No matter how much I bring my GPA up or increase my TEAS score. I hate that my past is really biting me now! Have you applied? Do you mind telling me your stats?

I am so sorry to hear that.. I am in the same boat as you. I was going to apply to UT as a back up plan but I am kind of short on time now and I haven't really look at Hesi A2. My stats are 4/4 4.0GPA 71 TEAS and Bachelor from UH. I totally bombed my test, but hopefully the other things will weight out. I know Iampam talk about her experience with 2/4 preferences, what I did was going to past admission and look for similar stats as my and see if the students made in. I suggest you to read around so at least you have an idea where you stand :)

To smak1013: Not as much of those two as I feared, and what was on there was pretty tame. It was mostly anatomy, life science, and seemingly a lot on the scientific process (hypothesis, analysis, etc.)

I almost ran out of time on the math section too!! I had an abundance of time leftover for the science section though. Hope you did awesome!

I am in total shock. I just got my results: 98! I don't even know how that happened! I absolutely do not want to sound gloat-y, I just thought maybe I could offer advice:

Start studying the practice manual four weeks in advance. Read through it well, mark important things, and do all the examples so you are sure you are understanding everything.

Do the practice tests, then go over all the areas you missed, in depth. Then take the tests again, to be sure you are learning it. Go several hours early to the test and read through your trouble spots once more, to have them fresh in your mind.

Once you get in the test with your scratch paper, write down any formulas, mnemonic devices, anything you think you'll need to remember.

Good luck everyone!

Oh wow that's great! Congrats on the score! I haven't taken mine yet ugh I'm just getting so stressed out! I just hope I get at least an 80 on the test. We have to memorize the formulas then? I thought someone mentioned on here that they gave formulas?

Most of the questions will give the needed formula, others do not, particularly the math section.

Way to go!! That's amazing!

What is your gpa and how many preferences do you have? Sounds like you will be accepted!

I spoke with advisor and she said I need to bring my test score and gpa up. Only 2/4 preferences...that can't be changed. I'm so scared that no matter how much I bring other areas up, I won't get in. I haven't heard of anyone with only 2 preferences getting in. :/

What did lampam say about 2/4?

You will get in. Awesome stats....don't worry.

@khinckley

wow!! Amazing score, great job. Thats actually the highest I have seen from all the posts I have come across. I am pretty sure you will get in with that.

@natijamison87

I can't recall what she said but you can look her up since she posted a few times under this topic. Thanks for the encourgement! I really hope I do get in. Did the advisor say you have a chance at least?

I took my TEAS test yesterday and today I got my results!

Adjusted Individual Score: 89.3%

ATI Preparedness: Advanced

Percentile National: 98

Percentile Program: 99

Reading: 97.6%

Math: 86.7%

Science: 85.4%

English/Language: 86.7%

My TWU GPA (using their sheet) is 3.67

4/4 A's on first try.

Now the wait starts! This is gonna kill me lol

Has anyone heard anything about Brookhaven's nursing program? I feel my chances for TWU are slim and want to apply to Brookhaven as well. Think I might have a better chance there? Also, is the HESI2 easier than TEAS? I made a 79%on the TEAS...only studied for a few days. Thanks for any insight :)
