TWU Spring 2013 Applicants!

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hello!:yeah:

I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?

After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.

So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!

I didn't say anything about a bump for 1st attempt A. See, I believe the water-cooler misinformation talk leads to more confusion and more paranoia, which is no bueno. I firmly believe in the theory of "if you want to know it, go ask the person who knows, not the person who heard it from someone who heard it form someone who thinks they know." So that is why I went to the nursing advisors with my questions to clarify what I heard from the younger students standing around talking after class.

On the GPA worksheet with the core classes that they have/had linked to the CON "how to apply" website, it says a 0.4 GPA bump for having 32 hours at TWU (16 for post-bac). So people mistakenly believe that just because they have taken 32 hours at TWU, they get 0.4 added to their GPA automatically, which is not accurate. So that is no longer the case, there is no 0.4 bump anywhere.

Preferences:

1. First attempt A in A&P 1 and Lab

2. First attempt A in A&P 2 and Lab

3. First attempt A in Microbiology and Lab

4. First attempt A in Statistics

5. Having a previous Bachelor's degree.

6. Having 32 hours of credit at TWU (16 for post-bac)

No 0.4 GPA bump, anywhere. Nada. Don't believe me, go up to the second floor of the ASB and ask one of the advisors.

Sorry guess i misread you post :) thank you and good luck with everything.

I have a question the Pathophysiology class y'all are talking about i know is not a prereq, however am guessing its recommend to take before you apply? Just a little confused sorry.

Specializes in Telemetry, Cardiac Step-Down.

You are correct :) You definitely don't need to take the class before you're accepted to the nursing program, but most students do because they've heard it makes the first semester a lot more bearable if they complete it beforehand.

I just finished Patho. It's hard. The book is 1800 pages and I have 120 typed pages of notes. Different teachers teach differently, so I can't give specific advice.

Take it before you start nursing school. At our orientation they were pushing anyone who hasn't already taken it to take it over the summer. It will make J1 semester a lot less of a nightmare, because we have Pharmacology during J1, too. Patho was really hard and in order to get an A you have to devote a lot of time and undivided attention to studying.

That being said, I will add that half of our Patho class thinned out on or about March 29th. The ones who weren't going to get a good grade and/or the ones who didn't get accepted.

Take Patho during your "in-between" semester if you are reasonably confident about getting in.

Hi all

i just applied to TWU today, i also sent my teas v score today. i have a question, pls can patho from community college transfer to university.

hi all, pls does sociology stand for multicultural studies.

Patho has to come from an accredited university if you took it somewhere else. It won't transfer from a community college because it is a 400 level class. Sociology and Multicultural Studies is not the same thing either I don't think. They might be able to count one of your sociology classes as a Multicultural class but you need intro to sociology and a multicultural class separtate.

Hey guys!

I am applying for Spring 2013 admissions to Dallas as well. I'm sure I am stressing out just like all of the rest of you. During the summer I am taking Chemistry and my performing arts class. I wish it were a little more clear cut on what it actually takes to get in to the program. Right now my GPA is a 3.75 with A's on first attempts in all except Statistics. I hoping the B in statistics doesn't hurt me too bad! Best of luck to all of you on the admissions process.

Unfortunately it can't. It has to be patho from a upper division. Collin College, for exemple, offers both, but to register to the upper division one you have to be selected by their nursing program.

It seems you are a great candidate. How was the TEAS? Good luck!
