TWU Spring 2013 Applicants!

U.S.A. Texas

Hello!:yeah:

I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?

After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.

So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!

Finals went super well, and I'm just SO excited I'm done with this semester! Finally, after two years, I have all my pre-reqs done for nursing school, wahoo!!

I haven't applied yet to the nursing program. I keep thinking I need to wait until I finish my TEAS, but I guess I don't have to...and yeah it's a part of the application process. :) I haven't started studying for the TEAS yet but I'm going to make it a goal of mine to open that book by the end of this week, and study hard!

When do you think you'll be taking it?

I feel the same way. It seems like it's been forever!! I've applied I think a week or two ago to the nursing program. I didn't even think about waiting. I must have done it on impulse and possibly just excited at the prospect of applying to nursing school. haha. It's been a long time coming. I wanted to pursue nursing since I was 18 but terrified of failure. Almost 10 years later....I'm done with my preqs and applying. =) It's a great yet worrying feeling of not getting accepted. I'm sure we all feel the same that's why it's great we are all going through this together. No one will understand us unlike those going down the same path. :w00t: I'm hoping to taking it MAYBE mid summer but I may push it depending on where I am in studying and if I feel confident enough. We're only allowed one time to take the test?

My stats as well:

GPA: 3.9

First Attempt: All A's except Comp II (B...hate that class!) and a few are retakes (I'm scared those retakes are going to hurt my chances..arg)

*Note: Counselor told me to have a score as close to a 4.0 as possible and score high on the TEAS. I am going to try!!

TEAS: ? Unsure Currently studying. Will probably take it when I am ready. No earlier than July.

Now that the spring semester is over, and I officially know where I stand...

Stats:

GPA: 4.0

First Attempt Grades: all A's

TEAS-V: ? I'll know when I take it in July? August?

I don't think you'll have a problem getting in. Just score high on your TEAS. =) Especially first attempts on all your classes and aren't you already attending TWU? That's better than me. :specs: You will do great! I don't remember if I asked you if you're taking any classes over the summer?

Yeah I'm a student at TWU already, but I don't think that really makes too much of a difference. I'm just really worried about getting a high enough score on the TEAS! I've heard it's really hard. :-/

Nope, not taking classes over the summer, thank goodness! I'm taking 16 hours in the fall so I really just wanted to be able to sit back and chill before getting back into the studious routine, haha. ;) I don't remember, are you taking summer classes?

You have really good stats as well!! I wouldn't be too nervous about getting in, if I were you. Here's to hoping for great TEAS grades!!

Have you taken all your classes at TWU and first attempts on sciences As? Wouldn't you get the "TWU bump?" I don't know how much that is but that could help a lot. You're lucky you're not taking any classes for the semester...I will be. I have signed up for 3 classes and for fall I'm just going to focus on pathophysiology. I was considering just retaking my history alone and the other classes for fall. Now that I'm thinking about it, it's not a bad idea. Yet all the classes are online. Hopefully they are not too bad. Decisions, decisions, decisions. :icon_roll Have you taken Woman's Studies or are you exempt from it? I think I'm suppose to have a completion of computer literacy too. Have you taken that? If so, how was it?

Hi, MaLloryann, I am applying to the Houston campus too. For the prerequisites, I will almost be done after the summer. I took TEAS in March. So I am almost ready for the application. Good to know you at this forum!

Unfortunately, I haven't taken all my classes at TWU. I'm a transfer student, and as of the end of this spring semester, I only have 29 credit hours at TWU. Since you need 32 to be eligible for the "bump", I don't qualify. I do, however, have all first attempt A's on the sciences and I've heard that they weigh those heavily, so I'm happy with that. :)

I actually haven't taken Woman's Studies or the Computer Literacy class yet either...those are two of the classes I'm taking in the fall, as well as my Comp II and Philosophy :D. I'm hoping the computer literacy class is ok; I'm kinda nervous about that one!

Hey wow your brave sounds like a fun summer good luck. I took the TEAS-V back in January and failed by 2 points. I plan to retake it in June or July once am done with my studying.

I have a friend who got a 72 on the TEAS-V and had a GPA of 3.7 and got accepted if that helps any :)

Hi Rosa! Thanks :) I'm just glad that semester is done! I'm sure you'll do much better on the TEAS now that you've taken it once and know what the format will be like. I wish I'd taken it in January, so I would've been more familiar with it!

And yeah, It definitely helps hearing about your friend. I'm so nervous about the TEAS, especially because it's the last piece of the puzzle and I just want to do well on it!!

Welcome to the forum, and good luck re-taking it! :D

Remember passing (to TWU) is considered a 64. And remember that you can only take the TEAS once per application cycle. Go read my other post earlier in this thread about the TEAS test help. Seriously, works.

From the J's mouth: 64 is passing, 74 is the average, 83+ if you want to be competitive.

With that said, I want to chime in again. I'm starting in Dallas this fall (orientation was awesome) and I know what you guys are going through. The panic of "am I going to get in?" can eat at you and make you certifiably crazy for at least a year. You have this uncontrollable desire to know where you rank among your peers and the other 999 people that applied for 110 spots. Well, you will never know that, and I have no clue where I ranked.

My advice: do the best you absolutely can, so that when you submit your application, you know that you did everything in your power to make sure that you got in. You have no control over the other people you are applying with, so don't let their grades or TEAS score dictate your life. You will literally go nuts, so don't compare yourself to other people. Do the best *you* can do. This is why when people ask me "what are your stats?" I just don't respond.

A couple more tidbits that I need to clarify for your help. This comes directly from the advisors that chose who gets accepted. There is no 0.4 bump for having your pre-reqs at TWU. I know that's what the website says, but they say that is too confusing and people are literally, and mistakenly, adding that to their GPA.

Here's how it works. There are really 6 preferences. 4 for the first attempt A classes. 1 for having a previous bachelor's degree. 1 for having your 16 or 32 hours at TWU. Those preferences are used as consideration along with the raw GPA and TEAS scores. This whole system that they use for acceptance is a balancing act so that if you lack a little in one area, but make up for it in the others that your chances of getting in are not completely over.

I say all of this in hopes that you gals (and any guys) might have some peace of mind and spare yourselves a few breakdowns that my friends and I had over this process. In retrospect, after we all got in, we said "what were we so worried about?". Just do the best that you can and encourage your friends.

Good luck/juju/mojo/prayers to you (and my friends that are applying at the same time) and I really hope to see you guys next spring!

@blt99

When you say "0.4 bump" for the 1st attempt A classes is that for all pre-reqs? I was told it was just for A&P I, A&P II, Stats, and Micro. Then again i could be wrong. =D
