I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?

After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.

So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!

Loveneverfails, I look forward to forming a study group! My friend who will also be taking patho sent me a picture of the book we'll be using...it looked like a large dictionary!

Im just worried I won't get in because I only have 2 out of the 4 first attempt bumps :(

I’ve been a lurker on this board for a while, and this is my first post. I have applied to TWU for Spring 2013, and got accepted into the college, but is there a separate nursing school application that I need to fill out? I also applied to Baylor for Spring 2013, and they required a separate application, so maybe that is where I am getting the idea. I spoke with a TWU advisor about a year ago to get me on the right track with my classes, but when I tried to get in touch with her this year to review my class schedule, she directed me to another advisor who basically told me to call back when I had been accepted to the school! I will be speaking to her next week, now that I have been accepted into the college. I’m just getting kind of antsy because I want to make sure I’ve got all my ducks in a row!

Hello All!

I've been following this thread for a few months now and finally feel comfortable enough to chime in. I attended transfer orientation at TWU Denton this past Friday and I also made the trip to Dallas to speak with Ashley Spinozzi, the upper division nursing advisor. She recommended taking pathophysiology at the Dallas campus this semester (as I have completed my prerequisites) and I registered for the class that day. My GPA is considerably lower than most I've seen on this thread but here are my stats:

3.5-ish GPA (taking chem and fine arts this summer so it remains to be seen...)

All first attempt A's in Stats, Micro, A&P I and II

92 TEAS V

I was told a 3.5 GPA is considered competitive for admission so all of you with higher GPA's can breathe a little :)

The first attempt preferences weigh heavily and apparently my TEAS score is one of the highest Ms. Spinozzi had seen in a while.

For those that are going to take the TEAS V soon, invest in the study guide from the ATI website. Study the whole thing cover to cover. Don't take anything for granted; even if you think you "know" something, study it anyway. The math section is taken without a calculator and you only have about exactly enough time to work out each problem. In fact, I ran out of time on the last 3 questions. C, C, C...haha! For the A&P section, it's not your standard general knowledge; you have to know some specifics so be prepared (the study guide IS helpful for this).

The sound of that book terrifies me a bit. Thank goodness I'm planning on just taking that one class for fall so I breath just a little. Can't say the same for summer. I have three classes...it's overwhelming work to say the least. =/

I'm sure you'll do great! Hey look at it like this...I only got 1 out of the 4 attempt bumps. You won me on that one. =) I had to retake the science classes and got A's in them but it's not first attempt. I'm sure that will play a big part in the decision process. But let's focus on summer, if you have any classes, or study hard for the TEAS like our lives depended on it.

your stats sound great! i was told by the counselor that gpa, first attempts, and the teas v score are given equal weight, so your first attempt a's and high teas v score should get you in, and your gpa is competitive, so you shouldn't have any problems! i have first attempt a's in everything and a 4.0 gpa without the bump, but i haven't taken the teas v yet. i have plans to take it in the next few weeks before i start summer ii classes. i'm more of a biology person than a chemistry person, so i'm a little nervous, because i think the teas v will be my weak point. i can only hope to score as well as you did! good luck! i'm sure you will get in!

At least you have one first attempt A, and from what I've been reading, you have an excellent GPA. Since you have taken the science classes twice, you should be extra prepared for the TEAS V! I'm sure you will rock the TEAS V and it will even everything out in the decision making process. We all have strengths and weaknesses. Think positive! Good luck!

Hi Ghosthunter! Welcome to the thread! :) You are correct, there is a separate application for the nursing program once you are accepted to TWU officially. If you declared your major as pre-nursing, then the nursing application should be in your pioneer portal account under "Tools" where it says "apply for the TWU nursing program."

Good luck with your meeting with the advisor! And good luck with the application process this summer! :D

Thank you for the support! I found the nursing application last night and applied! YAY! I called today to verify that everything went through ok, and all is well. I spoke with the nursing advisor earlier today, and she recommended that I take pathophysiology in the fall. I would like to take it online, but it doesn't look like you can do that without department authorization. Has anyone been able to sign up for it online, as in taking it as an online class, or do pre-nursing students not have that option?

Just found out from the advisor that the online option is for the RN-BS students. Yuck! Is anyone taking it on the Dallas campus?

I'm going to be taking it at the Denton campus because it's not my only class this fall, and as far as I know, everyone on here is also taking it at the Denton campus! ;) I remember hearing that the teacher at the Denton campus is nicer than the one at Dallas, anyway...

Well the Denton class filled up, so I will taking Patho at the Dallas campus. That's much more convenient for me, but I would have preferred the Denton class. Now I need to find out what book I need for the class. Any tips on how to do that? Each university seems to have their own system.

You'll need Pathophysiology: The Biologic Basis for Disease in Adults and Children, 6e. By Kathryn L. McCance. It's a black book with purple and lime green on the front! :)
