TWU Spring 2013 Applicants!

Published

Hello!:yeah:

I know it's pretty early to be starting this forum, but I just wanted to put my voice out there and see if there is anyone else out there hoping to join TWU's nursing program in the spring of 2013? What are you taking this semester (spring 2012), and when are you taking the TEAS-V entrance exam?

After this spring semester of taking microbiology, chemistry, developmental psychology, and statistics, I'll be ready to apply before the September 1st deadline! I'm hoping to take the entrance exam in the summer - probably June or July.

So yeah, I just wanted to see who else was out there!

ambrekai: Good luck at your meeting. Question how far in advance do you have to call to make a meeting do you know?

Rroosskkii88: Welcome to the site and good luck on your TEAS.

***Also I know someone on here said that they were going to be taking Patho in Dallas if you are let me know I would love to form a study group.***

I called this past Tuesday, and got an appointment for next Monday! :)

Lol don't apologize! Really, the appointment is just for my paranoia. I'm going to meet with the admissions coordinator to make sure everything is "good to go," and have her answer a few questions I have regarding my transcripts. I also want to make sure my TEAS score got there and is the correct score, although I could've just called and asked someone about that. I guess really, it's just to soothe my worried mind and make sure I just haven't forgotten some important piece of information. ;)

Hello,I am also applying for the nursing program at TWU in Spring 2013! I am actually scheduled to take my TEAS test August 16th. I'm nervous though. I just seen this site and decided to sign up for it. I just graduated from Lone Star College with my AS so I'm ready for the nursing to start. I am excited, but nervous at the same time. What is this site used for?? Sry I am new to all these things.

Welcome! I graduated too this last Spring from Lone Star (N. Harris) with my AS! This site is extremely helpful to get feedback and support from peers going through the same hectic process, I'm an addict, Lol! Are you going to be applying to the Houston or Dallas location?

Gosh...I just got off of a really upsetting shift at work. I work the front desk at a luxurious senior retirement community but all of the members are independent, so basically a really nice apartment complex with all elderly people. It's so rewarding, but I am learning the sad end of my job as some of my favorite members are going down fast. It's hard to see when you get attached to them...I want to say the solution is to not get attached, but then my quality of work will not be the way it is. We all know that we have to truly care for people going into the field we are.

I can already see some problems we will deal with as nurses. Getting attached to people, and then watching them go down. It's tough coming home and not letting it effect you. That whole "don't take your work home" thing is really a grey area for nurses, because you're dealing with people. I hope in nursing school they teach us how to find a healthy balance.

I know this is out of place. I'm sorry. I needed a place to vent.

I'm glad I'm not the only one concerned about this!! I would love to work with pedi's when I ever graduate but I surely wouldn't know how keep from getting emotional and attached! I worked as a medical assistant at a correctional facility and saw a couple of people pass and it was hard to hold back my emotions even then but all the nurses there were so hard and emotion-less. I know they were criminals but I didn't know what they did to be in there, and couldn't help but feel some emotions to see someone dying. I can't imagine going through that with someone you've become close with. I'm sure it will take some getting use to in any field of nursing!

Wow, that sounds like an awesome job! But yeah, it is hard because you either are the overly attached emotional nurse, or you're the cold heartless nurse. I am sure we will find a healthy balance!

I scheduled an appointment with the admissions advisor at the Dallas campus on Monday! I'm pretty excited. I can't wait to make sure everything is in order, and then know all I gotta do from the point forward is wait until November. :D

Let us know how it goes :)

hey y'all I'm officially FREE from stats! woo hoo! I was finally able to catch up with everyones post and it seems that all is well! So, I recieved my last study guide in the mail today and I'm ready for the studying to began! Q: would anyone recommend any helpful (online) resources? and are we allowed to use a calculator on the math portion of the HESI?

On the TEAS-V, you are not allowed a calculator. I am not sure about the HESI.

Thanks! This is the first time I'm hearing about being able to take Patho before being accepted. I will definitely look into that. I need to just sit down for several days and start preparing and studying for this TEAS test. I have the ATI book, but haven't looked at it due to working 40+ hours and also taking classes in the summer. :/ You have taken your TEAS test already correct?

Hi! Welcome to the site! I feel your pain with working FT and probably some OT...when I was studying for mine, I had school 8-3pm, work 4-10pm M-F, and had to spend most of my weekends working or doing school work. I managed to squeeze as MUCH TEAS-V study time in as possible, and did okay! Since you have a time crunch with work, be sure to really really focus on your weaknesses. Mine were Chemistry and A&P. A&P on the test can be over ANYTHING, and some of them are really specific, so there's not a great way to study for that, but if you never understood one topic in class, go learn it now because it will bite you on the test! But the ATI book is wonderful. I recommend the online tests as well. Good luck!!

You can use a regular 4 function calculator on HESI! They have a lot of conversions on the Math section.

Hey! I will be at the Dallas campus and would love to start a study group!
