TWU Fall 2010

Published

Is anyone out there applying to TWU for the Fall of 2010? I got this idea from a previous thread and thought I should get one started for this semester, so that we can help each other and communicate with each other?

I have taken the Hesi-A2 and got a 74.8 on it so they didn't even look at my application. I live on campus so any help or information I can give just let me know. I'm excited and feel good about this deadline.

Good luck and I look forward to meeting you!

MissMoe, I am so with you!

Both of my checkoffs have been disorganized, albeit for different reasons. For assessment, my group had no idea what time to show up. We also had a pharm test that day so it was a bit inconvenient to sit in the hallway for two hours or more waiting around and getting all panicky. Then this concepts stuff is just total *bleep*. Not one instructor teaches things the same as another. Some instructors were unsure of what "checkoff" meant. Some groups didn't even get to practice some of these skills in lab with a faculty member supervising. I know my group didn't do much for NG tubes...in fact, we didn't even have a manequin that you could get an NG tube into... I've barely practiced injections, and even then I barely got a lab aid's attention to tell me if I was doing it right. Today I learned I'm doing it wrong....but who's to say that tomorrow someone else won't tell me that's wrong? And what on earth is a kangaroo pump? Just because we were assigned a reading for a medical procedure doesn't mean we know how to do it!

I sure hope there aren't any other weeks like this ever. This has been terrible planning and organizing on the part of the faculty. And on a side note, what's with instructors failing students who aren't even in their sections? That's just wrong.

I haven't had much to complain about with TWU...maybe next time they'll space out this stuff a little better. Oh, and prepare students better. With 10 students per faculty in labs, it shouldn't be that hard for a little one-on-one time to make sure you know how to stick a tube into someone's body...

Now I need seven margaritas, three Ambien, five Xanax, a nice cold room, a comfy pillow, and a blanket... This week will end...as will my complain-fest.

After all, tomorrow is another day.

Well, I will be back on here tomorrow to complain about my concepts results. I do however agree with you that random people should not be failing students. That is just rude!

Dolsen, I wish I had another day to go to the lab, but 8am Thursday is when my madness begins. I wish I could say that I have been eating less, but actually I have been eating more and forgetting to drink my water:down:.

My instructor is really nice, but I think this is her first time teaching and she is not kept up to speed about things by other faculty. I am excited to go to the hospital...Care Plans look like they really suck, but if it were easy, everone would be a nurse.:D

mISSmoE= Don't we have Assessment review at 1pm on Monday? Atleast that is what someone told me. I did however make my reservation and signed up to give blood at 1pm...so just wondering. Ps...I'm so sleepy.

Assessment Review? Are you talking about the test review? If so, the meeting starts at 12:15 and ends at 2:00. If there is a test review then I will more than likely leave the meeting and go to the review..then I will come back. I might even schedule some time to go review my test on Wednesday. I just don't want to miss the HURST (NCLEX) review.

Yes, we have a review for assessment. The test review is next Monday at 1pm before our class, in the lecture hall on the 1st floor. And I will be leaving the meeting before then. Hopefully, we'll be able to go over some HURST review before we have our assessment review.

I wonder how long it will take to post the pharm grades. I am really dreading them, but the anxiety is killing me...

I'm also dreading clinicals for one reason - 6:00am.... Getting here early on Monday and Tuesday has killed me! I was too tired to even sleep last night... I feel like a zombie.

This week has been so demanding and draining. AHH!!!! Any who, please get some rest, don't want you to get sick.

Ok, now it is my turn to complain. Here I go:

I agree with both of you txcatcher and missmoe. This week has been totally unorganized! I guess because this is the first time there's a clinical check off (from what I've heard) and they didn't know where else to fit it. As for the pharm exam, yup, she can keep the grade. We were so busy trying to get our stuff together with assessment and vitals and concepts that pharm didn't get the attention it needed. They should have spaced this week out a little better. Oh, and yeah, why are other instructors failing other students! WHAT DA DEUCE!!!! The stress drove me to some drinks last night and I will sure go for some more Monday after school. Where are we going? we needs to go somewhere.

Good luck to everyone with their vitals and clinical check off's! Missmoe, I'm sure you did great! and you too Dhaywood! oh and Dolsen, and txcatcher, and ryant, and ok, just EVERYONE!!!! :D I'm glad to have met such a great bunch and am glad we are doing this together. I'd be bald by now if I didn't know any of you guys. If we survived patho, we can survive anything. :yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah:

We should go to get some drinks on Monday

Ryan - definitely! I need a drink right now. My anxiety is returning because of that effing kangaroo pump. I mean, seriously, we didn't learn that! I sure hope I don't get that scenario...else I'm just going to fail.

Hey, I heard that we can go early before skills checkoffs to practice... So I'll probably be there at like noon tomorrow.

Does anyone have any idea what the wall suction is???

don't know about kangaroo's besides the ones from australia and nothing about a wall suction besides the suctions you hang on your shower. So I will be practicing tomorrow.

Ok, so I did my check off today and I happened to pick the scenario with the kangaroo pump. I had everything else right but when I got ready to connect it to the pump I flat out told the instructor that I had NEVER EVER used one before! They show it on the CCLL video but it is not the same type so I was baffled. I knew all of the basic steps and the reasoning behind it all. She was understanding and basically walked me through it. You might have a different instructor than I had so take what I say with a grain of salt. Thankfully I passed!!!
