And please don't ever go by soap opera's. If we lived in Genoa City, we would pat our patients on the head, look at monitors, lovingly look at doctors (there's only 2 in Genoa City), never turn patients, and we would immediately run and get coffee for Victor Neuman when he walks in. That's it.
Oh yeah, hold a metal chart and tell the visitors, "the doctor will have to discuss that with you", and if they get emotional, we run and get a cold compress. Don't forget to look worried when the big sweeping music plays in the background.
I hate them really. Never watch em. They just don't and cannot find a way to portray accurately what we do..ESP shows like A Baby Story...make me wanna yack. If you want to know what nursing is like, shadow some nurses in a real situation. That is the best way I can think of. I wish you luck!

Yep. And don't forget, when the patient's monitor flatlines, we nurses RUN from the room screaming "DOCTOR!!!"

And we would all be skinny (yeahhhh I wish, now I know its not real:rolleyes: ) with perfectly clean never staining body hugging uniforms, and the nurses dresses are always cut above the knee and the support hose come in so many colors (but never kitchen appliance white). And high heels would be oh so comfortable after a 10 hour shift.
We could just tell the float nurse Suzy "I'm going to lunch now" and walk out with out giving report, be gone for hours having lunch at some resturant that happens to be located in a hotel in case.......well you know. Then again the nurse patient ratio is like 1 to 1 because all you ever see the nurses doing is restocking the medicine cabinet over and over and over again.
Slap me quick and hand me the remote...
Yeah, I like it when the woman is up in stirrups grunting and screaming, then all of a sudden they hand her a clean little baby with a nice round head. The kid looks like its ready for college, instead of just born! LOL!
Or how about the sexy nurse in a short skirt wearing high heels! Necking in the broom closet! Yeah, right!
And don't you just love it when someone dies on TV and the nurse just stands there, then turns off the EKG monitor?
Are TV shows realistic? LOL!:roll :chuckle :rotfl:

Hey everyone!
I'm a nurse wannabe, attending school next fall.
I'm curious what you "real, live" nurses think of such programs on tv as ER, Real Life Trauma, Maternity Ward, etc.
Are these show a help or hinderance to the profession?
Are they realistic?
Do you think they show a glamorized version of your work?
I'm very curious as to what you - the experts - think about this topic.
