Tri-C in Cleveland

Published

A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester :D. The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.

NewStart2010:yeah:

Well, that's a bummer. I might get in to LCCCs program that semester. Might. I'll be done this summer with all my support courses and only have nursing courses left and have to wait. And wait. LCCC says they don't have a waiting list either, they call it an applicant pool. I call BS. :p

Dang it.. So it sounds like there is a huge one year waiting list to get in at tri-c.. i was hoping to try to get in to the lpn program this fall.. Is all hope gone for that?

According to their website, they are placing for Fall 2011 for the LPN program.

The PN program only admits one class per year, unlike the RN program, which admits day, modified evening/weekend, and accelerated groups in the fall and a day and LPN-RN group in the spring.

So I called tri-c today and the girl who answers the phone was baffled that my results for the A2 say PN all over them. They do not have my results yet. I took it on March 18th and she told me it takes 4-6 weeks for the results to be sent to them...she said to hang tight and hope for an application for the RN program in the mail...she did check my file and told me that I was reviewed for the RN program. A waiting game....still toying with Huron for this coming Fall. I wonder is Huron worth 346 dollars a credit hour to get done in Spring 2011? Or should I hang out take some additional support courses online with Tri-C until I can begin clinicals...hopefully in Fall of 2011 with a projected finish date of Spring 2013? Opinions?

Finishing two years sooner? That's two years of potential work. Huron would be my choice.

I just called Tri-c and they told me they will send the letters on Friday. So I think we will receive it by Monday. :yeah:

Frankly you've come this far at Tri-C. Might as well continue at Tri-C. Besides there is no guarantee you'll get in at Huron for Fall of this year anyways. Besides it's about $13,000 tuition at Huron vs maybe $3,000 tuition at Tri-C.

So I just signed a 1 year lease in Columbus, OH today so it looks like no Tri-C for me! If for some reason I can't get into CSCC for Fall 2011 start date, I'll still be subleasing and moving to Cleveland.

I just GREATLY prefer the set-up and structure of CSCC. At CSCC I get to do clinicals specifically in ICU, trauma, ER, and PICU.... none of which you get at Tri-C.

I am pretty sure that I'll get in Huron for Fall...3.75 in my bachelors and 4.0 in my prereqs. My application was complete in January for them and they are still holding open houses for the Fall cohort as of last week...but like Scott says 13,000 vs 3,000...although I will need to fill my schedule with some support classes while I wait for tri-c so it will cost me about 600 bucks a semester until I can begin clinicals. I have everything done except micro which I have scheduled for summer along with Medical Terminology I. Any ideas for support work until Fall of 2011? I have to remain a half time student or I will need to pay on my grad school loans that are in deferrment currently. So, I basically need at least six hours a semester, but I am thinking of taking the summer off just prior to the nursing sequence. I am meeting with a tri-c counselor to final my maximum credit hour appeal next week so I need to have a plan....would prefer online coursework as well since this greatly saves me childcare expense -- trying to sock money away for when I need to be physically in person somewhere on a regular basis.

foreverlaur,

just saw your post -- congrats on the decision. I am sure you'll get in CSCC -- please let us know when you do. Do you have any idea as to their notification schedule? Their setup does sound very nice with the rotation thru ICU etc...as somebody that really wants to work in critical care, I am jealous since the bulk of tri-c clinicals are med/surg rotations.... so you can't even leverage clinical experiences to try to get a job in critical care units after graduation.

You should look into taking HTECH 1110/1610 (medical ethics and pharmacology) as well as DIET 1200 (nutrition) or their medical terminology II at Tri-C. They are all offered online and you can even proctor your exams if campus is not accessible. My ethics and pharmacology classes have exams online. I'm also taking biological anthropology and it is okay.

I do agree that is a big downfall to Tri-C's program is that it is all med/surg based and then the peds/OB/psych. CSCC lets you do electives and as long as it fits in your schedule, you can do as many as you like. I'm doing one in trauma and then I can do my last quarter prectorship in Grant's Level I Trauma bay (CAN'T WAIT!!). Also want to do an ICU and PICU rotation.

The next application period is July 1 at 9:00 AM and they will probably send out notifications some time in October. So I'll know what my start date is before Tri-C. Hopefully it is no later than August 2011! I'm going to have to get in right at 9:00 AM!
