A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester . The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.
NewStart2010:yeah:
thanks -- roman numerals???? my gosh haven't given those a thought in years! thanks for the math link, I will use it to review some basic stuff...when it comes to math, I am competent but by no means a superstar...always got Bs in math back in the day....any luck with deciding between tri-c and cscc? As an Ohio State grad, I love Columbus! I'd have a hard time leaving it if I lived there.
The study guide did mention roman numerals, like write 1976 in roman numerals or what is XXIV in numerals? I only had one question on the actual test. The basic numbers are pretty easy to remember though so I wouldn't worry about that. Just remember the household conversions because you can use a calculator for the rest!
I got a good job here in Columbus. I enjoy it, it is flexible for school, they offer tuition reimbursement that will pay for school, and the benefits are great. I also have a serious relationship, a sister, and friends in Columbus. However, I can't start at CSCC until August 2011 because those that applied in January 2010 filled up August 2010 and March 2011. So I don't want to leave all that. On the other hand, I have a guaranteed seat to start in January 2011 at Tri-C. How do you give that up? Ugh... I don't want to make this decision!!
hmmmm.....have you spent any time here in Cleveland? I am not sure I'd be willing to give up what you have down there for a semester head start. The Clevelanders will kill me, but even the shopping is better in Columbus. Overall, I think Columbus is a more youthful city as well. Cleveland is the married with kids kind of place -- not that Columbus doesnt have that too...but gosh....you have Ohio State football saturdays.....what could be better than that????

:) You raise a good point. I'm just so anxious to start! I spent all 4 years of undergrad bouncing around majors and not having a clue and I finally know and I really want to get started! I'm from NE Ohio so I know Cleveland very well. My parents still live in a suburb of Akron. But you are right - Columbus is a great city. I have another month or so to decide. My lease is up May 31 so I need to be securing a new place to live soon or moving up North!
Don't worry about the Hesi A2. I barely studied and I was shocked at how easy it was. You will take the science portions to, but they don't look at those scores. It is nice to get a feel for how much bio, chem, and a&p you remember though! There are still spots open for Spring 2011 so hopefully you get in. Plus, my spot will most likely be opening up :)
After taking the HESI you'll feel like it was a complete waste of your time and want your $85 back.
My thoughts exactly. The part that Tri-C requires a 75% or higher on is a joke!! My neighbor has a daughter in 5th grade and she scored a 95% on the practice test. I asked her to take it out of curiosity. If a 5th grade can rock the Hesi A2 makes you really wonder how anyone will have a prayer of surviving nursing school if they barely make the cut-off.

The microbiology class I'm in is doing a pretty good job of weeding the idiots out. Class average for the midterm was a 60 out of 150 or 40%. This is with my 153.5 dragging the class average up. I'll be surprised if there are 15 people left at the end of this class out of the 48 that started it. I know that not a whole lot of this stuff translates over into nursing, but... You've got to have some pride in what you are doing here and not scoring 40% or below.
Scott-
How do you feel the class compares to anatomy and physiology 1 and 2? I haven't faced any trouble so far and micro is my last pre-req co-req to take...hate to ruin that 4.0..I agree with you though about pride in what you are doing...as a nearly forty year old mother of three returning to school after having graduated from Ohio State in 1993 I feel like some of these younger students with much less responsibility and more energy should be doing better in these classes. My kids are 7, 5, and 2 - -they are at three different schools -- I am running around like a maniac all the time -- if I can get As in these classes then my 19 and 20 yr old colleagues should be capable as well. But I did meet a young girl at a biochem lab final that was failing...after talking to her, I discovered she had no idea HOW or WHAT to study. Unfortunately some of the younger students face these problems -- they are ill-prepared for college level study. I do think a place like tri-c is great for these types of students since they are many resources available to get study skills up to snuff. OSU was more of a sink or swim place -- I knew way too many that failed out within the first year.
Thanks for the info and good luck with everything,
Becky
Anyone look at the tri-c site recently and notice the little announcement about the west shore campus? What is this? Will this mean there will be more slots open? I just finally took the A2 and ScottE was right...what a waste of money...anyway here's hoping that I can start before Fall of 2011

I noticed that too! It looks like it is in Westlake and due to start having classes in January 2011. I wonder if that will include another nursing class or not! I was actually looking to live in Westlake and attend the nursing program so it would be amazing if I could switch to that campus for January! I really hope more information is coming soon... (and that you can get in for January too - I'd love to know a classmate already).
Hmmm, that would be a very interesting development! LCCC is very backlogged according to the counselor I saw today and it looks like the soonest I would likely start is in the fall of 2011. And I'll be done with everything but the actual nursing classes after the summer term. I really don't want to have to wait a year. I don't know if it's worth it to go to Tri-C and drive for just one semester, but a Westlake campus would be worth it.
I have been looking all over the site and can not find where it says anything about the west shore campus. Would one of you point me in the right direction please?? I would love to find out more info about something closer to home! Thanks for your help everyone. I know that it sounds like things are still in the making, but any info that would help me would be great!
