Tri-C in Cleveland

Published

A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester :D. The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.

NewStart2010:yeah:

Got my acceptance letter into the ADN evening/weekend program for fall 2011 a few days ago. So excited!

Congrats!! Was that your #1 choice? I received my letter today for acceptance into the day program for january 2011. I wanted to do evening/weekend program, but I didn't want to wait another 8 months to start. I'm impatient :)

So I'm officially starting in January!! :-D

I start at tri-c this fall for my pre-reqs...do you think I'll be able to get into the fall 2011 program? I don't want to have to wait until 2012 :(

The Fall 2010 class filled up about 8 months before the program started. So I would plan on having your application complete and submitted (including the Hesi A2) by January of 2011. If you can do that, you have a good chance of starting in August 2011. The only way you'd have a chance is if you took all 4 prerequisite courses in Fall 2010 (which is possible given that they have no prerequisites if you have math at at least a high school algebra level).

Is there any reason why you can't start over the summer? You could take all the prerequisite Summer 2010 and have your application in before the end of 2010 giving you a very good chance of getting in when you want. You'll be cutting it close since you can't even apply to take the Hesi A2 until late December and you probably won't hear back from them about taking it until mid-January. You'll be in the same exact boat I was in. I called in after finishing my prerequisites in mid December 2009 and wasn't able to take the Hesi A2 until late January and I missed the Fall 2010 class and got placed in Spring 2011.

The process for getting in is complex.

1. Once the prerequisites are complete, you call in and leave a voicemail message stating that you meet the prerequisites (GPA and courses).

2. They verify this and once a month mail out letters on how to take the Hesi A2

3. You e-mail Hesi and they send you back a student ID within 3-5 business days

4. You use the student ID to sign up for the Hesi A2 (sometimes you can get into the testing center within a week and other times they are booked and it takes a few weeks)

5. At the end of each month, the scores are sent to Tri-C

6. In the middle of that following month, Tri-C sends out the application to the program

7. Once they receive the application, they place you in the next available class and mail you are confirmation in 1-2 weeks

So even once your prerequisites are complete, it will be a solid 2-3 months before you are actually in.

I go on vacation every summer, so i won't be here for the summer semester. So do I need a whole year of pre-reqs or just a semester?

The prerequisites can be taken in 1 semester. They are only 13 credit hours. What is your math background? Any transfer math credits? AP exams? ACT math score? Assuming you have an okay math background, you should be able to have all yours done in 1 semester. However, you will still be pushing it for a Fall 2011 start date. Worst case scenario though is starting January 2011. 3 months won't kill you... or if it will, you can skip out on summer vacation for one summer. All the courses are also offered online except Biochem which is offered in 5 or 8 week sessions, so if you wanted to do the courses online and take Biochem during a shortened session, you could still have up to 10 weeks of summer to go on vacation. Look into it - the summer schedule is out.

I didn't take the ACT, lol. I figured if I'm going to community college, what's the point? I took algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and a semester of pre-calc during high school. I graduate in june :)

Get your application in to Tri-C for a summer start. Look into math/english placement tests. Look at the course schedule ideas I told you above.

Ok, thanks for the help.

NP - good luck :) Your worst case scenario of starting 3 months later than your ideal start isn't all that bad! I wish I had that opportunity.

ok -- finally got the A2 scheduled -- HELP! I took the NET earlier in the year and missed the cutoff by one question got a 77 percent in math and 100 percent in reading comp -- yes in my former life I have an English degree. Anyway, I really want to get the cutoff score on this A2 and get a slot at tri-c in the near future...like spring of 2011. I think I will be accepted to Huron School of Nursing for the Fall, but it is so much more expensive I am not sure I can swing it. What do I need to brush up on for the A2? It was the fractions that got me on the NET and the fact that there are very few questions to begin with, so you really couldnt miss too many and still get that 80 percent cut. also...my last pre-req at tri-c is micro -- anyone take the hybrid class at east? I am trying to save on childcare -- it meets once a week on fridays.

The math part is REALLY easy. Plus, you have a calculator to use the entire time which makes it rather idiot proof :) It is just basic math, fractions, roman numerals, and household conversions. The study guide put out by Hesi does a good job of preparing you for the math (or so I thought). There are like 50 some questions on the exam. I hadn't done the math that is on the exam in 9 years so I had to relearn basic math and I ended up with a 100% on the math portion. I really wouldn't worry about it. Just pick up the study guide or go to www.math.com to review. Also, I believe you need a 75% in the math/English language portion.
