nurse was appointed in our hospital 2 yrs ago, her previous job was in a nursing home (for 5yrs) where she supposed to have completed adaptation course.
a registered general nurse who does not know the following:
has been reported to ward sisters and when ward sister confronted that staff nurse she denies everything and makes it look that others are lying.
even one consultant has asked ward sisters to check her credential, but nothing seem to be happending
list goes on and makes boos everyday!!
tragedy awaiting to happend!! :angryfire
the agency which supplies my hospital has just discovered a nurse working for them who wasnt a nurse reallyshe was spotted by the staff on my ward
very worrying
And what did she show as a license from the NMC? Practicing without a license is actually a jail sentence. Hope that charges were submitted to the NMC as well about her. It is also the responsibility of the facility to verify the license, guess that they did not do that. And what about that agency? They are first in the line of fire for not verifying information and signing off that they did. That is in all contracts that agencies have with facilities. They need to lose their contract with the facility as well. Not sure how they do things on your side of the pond, but in the US, this is what would be done.
We had a similiar problem last year with a newly qualified staff nurse 'waiting' for his PIN, I was his mentor and he got quite agitated when I wouldn't let him do injections etc to sign him off as competent, I kept pestering as I was leaving the job, asked him for his pass letter in the end, he brought in a module pass letter and argued that was his finals pass letter, line manager eventually took it further and turns out he had never passed his finals- had been training for 4 years as kept gettin put back- he was told to leave or be sacked and as far as I know it went to NMC - I think his arrogance was very scary, made me very aware of protecting my registration

i thought i'll give you an update on this nurse. she has commenced her post basic course and guess what, she had been done with plagiarism. makes you wonder how she has got other qualifications that she claimes to have. (bsc, ma etc)
Hi,just popped into this thread and must say I'm appauled!I work in a nursing home and all the things you list as lacking in this nurse are vital to our practice!
In the papers not so long ago one of the biggest teaching hospitals in the area discovered nurses working without up to date NMC reg.some of them were 6,8,9 years! now that is scary! Why are these people getting jobs without up to date reg?Surely Human resources should be checking everyones reg yearly/3yearly?
A passing comment about my reg card.It is so badly printed that I am practicaly ashamed to show it as proof of reg! Not a good advert for a proffesional body(small rant over

I remember when I was training back in the early 80's a EN who wasn't allowed the drug keys what so ever and always an experience working with her as something would always go wrong like pouring custard on the main meal instead of gravy or visa versa
