Totally Off Topic...apple recipes?

Next Sunday night starts Rosh Hashannah (Jewish New Year) and we are going to two dinners to celebrate, one Sunday night and one Monday night. I always do an apple crisp and am looking for something "different" to bring this year, still a dessert. Any recipes you love? Ideally something I can make two of and bring for both since I was asked to do a dessert for both.

Edited to add that there is significance of apples in Judaism for the New Year so that is why it must be an apple recipe ;)

Apple hand pies--cut pie crust into circles, add pie filling, fold & press & cook 375 for 20-30 minutes.

Taffy apple salad--my favorite recipe is mix of red & green apples, mix a container of cool whip with a pack of vanilla instant pudding, chop up some chocolatey caramel candy (Snickers, Twix, Milky Way). Mix it up & refrigerate for a couple of hours. Some people add marshmallows or chocolate chips or peanuts.

No ideas whatsoever...but reading your post caused me to cringe. My Sweet Petunia will "volunteer" to make various dishes for "fill in the blank" occasions. She does so with a smile and a nod of enthusiasm until she exits the arena and then starts to angst over it, which means I'm expected to throw in 100% with the endeavor from start to delivery; it's such a joyous occasion for me!! :sarcastic: I know this is absolutely no help to you but it makes me feel better to get it off my chest here cuz I sure wouldn't say it to Sweet Petunia!

I have (had?) a *really* good apple cake recipe. I haven't made it for quite a while. I'll try to hunt down the recipe tonight.

French Apple Cake - David Lebovitz

I'm excited to share this recipe. It calls for four apples - a mix of varieties. I can't remember the varieties I used, but I remember one was a yellow apple. I googled the best varieties of baking apples and was able to find them in Walmart of all places. I've made this recipe twice to rave reviews. It's really very simple. The labor intensive part was peeling the apples...and finding a store that sold creme fraiche. Vanilla icecream was also good with this cake.

I made baked apples for a function last fall and they were a hit. Serve with a side of vanilla ice cream, simple and delicious!

Check out allrecipes.com. I've got a bunch of great cookbooks, and I need to get back to them, but for the last few years I've been kind of addicted to allrecipes. Sometimes I'll look at 2-3 similar ones and pick and choose ingredients, but at least I do get a lot of ideas from there.

Sour cream coffee cake with apples and walnuts! Delicious and great with the after-dinner coffee.
