i took the nclex without reviewing

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I have long been postponing my NCLEX due to the fact that I'm too scared to fail. I wanted to pass it the first time I take it. My brother told me this: not taking the NCLEX, not trying is tantamount to failing. What I did was I scheduled for an exam and took the NCLEX without reviewing. I did this ultimately to combat my fear. I don't have the results yet and I feel that I did not pass=P But at least I was able to face my fears and gauge my knowledge. I got a feel of the actual exam. and I will not be too scared and I WILL PASS the next time I take my NCLEX. I was just wondering if there are other people who did the same? or am I completely insane like what my friends tell me?

Congrats on testing! Having been in a similar situation myself (more than ten years between graduation and NCLEX) I completely understand how the fear of taking the NCLEX can keep you from doing it. When I first graduated I was worried just like all my classmates but didn't test due to life circumstances at the time. When years go by, that normal fear most students feel initially can become so much more!

I bought the Kaplan course and figured I could get more out of my review by failing the NCLEX and using the overview they send to focus on my weakest areas. I did have several days off and prepared some with the idea that maybe I could squeak by if given enough questions. Considering my car died and I got stranded between home and the testing center the night before and didn't arrive at my hotel till like 2 or 3 am (8 am test), I had given up all hope of passing when I went in. I got 75 questions and knew when I left there was no way I passed (tons of pharm on my exam and I didn't review any of it). To say I was shocked that I passed would be an understatement! If I can manage it after ten plus years with minimal preparation, there's definitely hope that you could do so without any studying!

i took my exam on aug 5th. we are exactly on the same boat. i don't want to sound mean. i am WISHING by some miracle that the pvt does not work, but i firmly believe that it is accurate =(

if you have read my other posts, you probably would have read my situation. some people could be mean- one even said i am eligible for 5150, but there are current life situations people who don't personally know me won't understand. i hope you don't mind me saying this.. if you have the money, the time and support from your family/relatives, grab that opportunity and study hard. i am currently at work taking care of a hospice patient in her house- end stage copd-i can't even finish this response in one sitting because she needs me every now and then. they have a dog i have to walk in their garden EVERY 15 minutes if i am not doing any other thing for them. her daughter who lives here has a monitor and if i fail to take the dog out, she calls me on my mobile phone to remind me not to be lazy on doing this. i am not a fast reader. my current home situation won't permit me to have my space and time to read. mostly, when i get home from work, i am PHYSICALLY too tired and sleepy my eyes need toothpicks to keep them from shutting close. when i am reading here/watching nursing stuff via youtube and they call me, nothing gets retained. i wish i had the time and the money to be able to afford reviewing for at least 1 whole month without distraction. . if you have a better situation than mine, use that to prepare for the NCLEX. if you fail, you can take it again. i wish you good luck my friend.

to babinski123: when did u take your exam? i did the same thing too..took the exam 8/6unprepared and because my att has almost reached the deadline!..i was following your previous posts re: pvt..unfortunately i've got the bad pop up..the only thing that gives me hope right now are the few posts of those who had the bad pop up and ended up passing..and also those who had good pop ups who failed..pls keep us posted of the result..God bless us :)

Saulone27, stop asking people for questions they saw on the nlcex knowing that it is a violation of Nclex rules and regulations. You have to keep studying and pray.We all have responsibilities trust which varies from families to dying loved ones. Please play safe and keep others from getting in trouble too.Goodluck and i sincerely hope you pass and stop getting scare.

Oh sorry not a setup. I didn't know. Best of luck to all!

As mentioned by Tammy it is a confidentiality violation to discuss questions etc that you have when sitting the exam. Due to the nature of the exam it is hard to predict what you will get, best thing is to prepare for it by studying properly

Thank you i'll know for the future.

What scores have people who have done kaplans gotten on the kaplan stuff and then went on to pass the nclex. I got a 71 one my readiness but my q bank ( finished 60%) is only 59% cumlitive grade. I got 60 58 56 on the first three trainers. any ideas? do you think i am set to go?

thanks

Saulone27,some people do have your scores and pass and while some have the same scores and still fail.It all depends on what they throw at you during the exam.We can only try our best and pray you know.I do see alot of people with your scores that pass nclex though.Findout through the search on the forum.Goodluck.

Thanks Tammy, for being so helpful!
