The computer shuts off when you have met competency or have not met competency. There is no magic number that says you pass or fail. People pass and fail with all sorts of numbers. I passed with all 265 questions. If you don't live in California, you should be able to access quick results on pearsonvue-nclex.com. They tell you if you pass or fail in 48 hrs.

I passed even though my test shut off at 75 questions. I was so scared afterwards. Does anyone come out the NCLEX thinking, "I did great!"? My sister kept telling me it is more common to pass with 75 questions than to fail that quickly. I was very lucky, and found out the same day that I passed. We don't know anyone who failed after having a smaller number of questions. Hang in there:icon_hug:

I came out of the nclex thinking "I did great!" I knew I passed the minute the computer shut off.

It was not the RN but when I took the PN I felt like :omy::urgycld::thnkg: so you are the first person I have ever heard say that before!

Wishing you good luck.
Not me...I was scared afterwards. I had at least 15-20 "select all that apply" questions, it was nerve-racking. How long did it take you to find out? My license number showed up on the state government website the same day.
My above comment was to britney_RN. I didn't paste your comment correctly. oops
I actually started balling my eyes out once the computer shut off at 75 questions. The tears were a feeling of relief and that I indeed reached my goal. The proctor asked me why I was crying and I told her that I was happy that I passed. The test just seemed very easy to me, I've taken much more difficult tests while in NS.
To all that are getting ready to take the nclex......just practice all the questions that you possibly can and go in feeling confident.
Good luck.

Ah, the good old days of paper testing! I found out WEEKS later but I knew I had passed because I was one of the first done. For me that means I know what I am doing. If I'm one of the last I had to think too hard. I don't know what I would do if a computer took me through all the questions!
