Took the Nclex this morning, has anyone ever heard of this disorder

Published

I took my exam this morning and I had 75 questions, one of my first questions was what would you instruct a patient to do if he has XEROEMIA? I have never heard of such a thing and I have had a hard time finding info about it. I was thinking that it could be one of the "pilot questions".

let me know...

Are you sure that you are spelling it correctly.

Taken literally could mean that they had nothing extra in their blood and was normal.

yes, I know...this is exactly how it was presented on my exam...my options to choose from were: give artificial tears, give artificial saliva. I don't remember the last two options.

XERO=dry

Do you mean XEROMA? Means: an abnormally dry state of conjunctiva, a.k.a. xerophthalmia.

Hope this will be helpful.

You missspelled. It's called xerostomia and you give artificial saliva. It's in my book, in oncology section. Patient got this after chemotherapy as a site effect. I was studying this last week.

OMG thank you so much, well just to have you know, I chose artificial saliva (as a guess) I had absolutely no clue as to what it was!! Thanks again, I feel good knowing that I got at least one more right :chuckle

Could it be Xerostomia?

Usually used to describe dry mouth/mouth irritation secondary to radiation/chemo for cancer (especially Head and Neck cancer). Artificial saliva is generally used.

LOL!!! If I am to remember any one question from the NCLEX it would be the one on xerostomia...I think years from now that word will always haunt me!!! If you say you answered "artificial saliva" and had only 75 questions, I'm almost positive you passed!!!! Start celebrating--and don't worry yourself sick waiting for the results, just listen to your gut feeling telling you that you're going to have that "RN" behind your name in a few days!

Are you sure it wasn't Xerostomia?? I got that question on my NCLEX as well, it is the medical term for dry mouth :uhoh3: Can you believe that! And of course I didn't know it then, until after I raced home and looked it up and to my complete horror found out I guessed wrong! I am sure I failed!! There were things on that danged test I have never heard of! Go figure!

I wish that i could be as confident as you are, this is my second day of waiting and I am about to go nuts!! Yeah, i don't think that I will ever forget that word...

I just happened to have a lucky guess...I had no clue as to what it was. I must have been daydreaming the day we covered that in lecture...oh well...

so, i would tell you not to worry, but I know that you will do it anyhow. I try to keep my mind off of it, I just try to stay busy...I will keep praying for you!! good luck

That is SO weird. I took the NCLEX yesterday and I had the same question. It was about "Xerostomia" and artificial saliva. :chuckle

That test was brutal. :uhoh21:

I stopped at 75 also, but I think I failed it. :crying2:

Good luck to you and everyone else!
