I just finished watching the Today show interview that Matt Lauer did with Tom Cruise. I'm quite simply mystified by his take on psychiatry. He claims to know more about it than just about anyone, including those with medical degrees. I'm just curious about what others think about his vocal opinion on the subject. Am I crazy or does HE need a psychiatrist?
Hey cheerfuldoer! :)Do you by chance have a link to this? I would like to see it if possible (maybe I'll head over to CNN.com and try to find it).
I have adult ADD and have been on Concerta. I don't believe it's a good drug! I felt my ADD was worse ON the drug than off. I'd get this "spacey" feeling which was worse than the ADD itself. Fortunately, I had a great PA who understood the problem and was placed on something else.
Sorry, but no I don't have a link to it. You know how they run news captions at the bottom of the screen all the time? Well, that is where I read it. I was concerned because I have a grandson on that medication. :)

Just went to CNN.com to look this up; here's the link

It appears that the FDA is going to look at all meds for ADHD; so far the reports aren't conclusive.
I was watching a program last night where a psychiatrist made an interesting comment on the whole Tom Cruise situation ...
He pointed out that Cruise is mistaken in blaming psychiatrists for overprescribing these drugs when, in fact, physicians in general are responsible for the vast majority of presricptions, not psychiatrists.
I thought that was a very interesting perspective on the whole controversy.
I just read last night that Kelly Preston, John Travolta's wife and Scientology follower, is publicly supporting Tom and his courage to speak out against psychiatry. She also said that Brooke Sheilds was acting irresponsibly for not telling people the dangers/side effects of antidepressants. Umm, sorry but I think that's a health professionals job.

If people think these drugs can help them, they have to go into their PCP and the PCP will then make the decision to either prescribe or refer for a psychiatry consult. They will then tell all of the side effects and issues involved. Brooke shields won my admiration for talking about her troubles so openly. Tom cruise and now Kelly preston need to quit attacking others for olding different beliefs. What can they say anyway? It certainly doesn't appear that taking the drugs did any harm to Brook shields. She is happier, healthy and non-suicidal now. So how is that "dangerous"?

Hey, thanks for finding the link pattyjo! :) I told my daughter to stop giving my grandson Concerta until she talks to his pediatrician. He's only been on it three weeks or so, so it's not too late to switch him to something else...like Strattera.
P.S. I bookmarked that link for my daughter to read when they get back from vacation. I'm using her computer right now since I'm staying at her place while pet sitting their dog. :)

A LOT of celebrities in Hollywoood belong to that organization, and put TONS of their money into it to support its cause. Fine if that is what they find beneficial for them HOWEVER none of them are MEDICAL DOCS or PSCYHIATRISTS so they need to stop spouting off the mouth publicly about medical facts they do NOT have experience with personally or medically speaking. Geez! SOME celebrities have gotten wayyyyyy too big in their britches.
Kelly Preston is the one who's irresponsible, suggesting that Brooke Shields, who has no medical or pharmaceutical training, should be giving advice about medications. That is why these meds aren't over the counter in the first place... you are supposed to have to consult your physician.
Kelly Preston is the late Rick Nelson's daughter. He was soooooooooooo HOT!!! I had the biggest crush on him for years! He had those looonnngggg gorgeous eyelashes and those big beautiful dark eyes, and hair that I wanted to run my fingers through everytime I saw him on t.v. I would watch The Nelson's show just to drool for a half an hour over Rick! I wanted a son so I could name him Ricky after Rick too. Ohhhhhhh to be young and act so foolish over gorgeous guys. :rotfl:
Wonder what Daddy Rick would say if he were still alive about her voicing such irresponsible thoughts?
They are all crazy-....(and no she is not Rick Nelson's dtr--he had 2 boys and a girl named Tracy-an actress that survived some type of leukemia) Do a search of both their names to read their bios....Kelly Preston is the late Rick Nelson's daughter. I was just going from what Mrs. Jackson said in an interview done after the trail. (I do believe he has been involved with the Nation of Islam, also.)
