To tell or not to tell...

Published

I just passed the NCLEX and now I'm planning to apply to tertiary hospitals while waiting for the retrogression to end. I'm a second courser and have no prior hospital work experience. Should I divulge in my application that I'm an NCLEX passer? Will I have a better chance of being hired by being silent about my NCLEX pass? What will I tell when asked what I've been doing from the time I graduated up to this time which is almost a year?

I know hospital employers are aware that most of us (especially the second coursers) are only after the training here and that we'll leave later on. But I want to productive while waiting. By working I know time will be faster and I'll be learning as well.

I'll appreciate any input, comment or suggestion. God bless!

in case they'll be asking for your nclex status i think you should be hoenst about it. as you have said they are quite well aware that nurses here in the phil. come and go... when i applied when asked i honestly mention i do have plans to go abroad so that they will not expect much regarding my stay. and some have mentioned to give me something like a probation of a year... :) so i can go after that... :) ciao!

Withholding information like that is considered the same as lying in the eyes of government and employers. You need to be up front and honest with them.

if you passed itand they ask you about it, then tell it. anyways, its a public knowledge that almost all of us filipino nurses would like to migrate.

it is not public knowledge but the very reason why people go into nursing. that is to leave the philippines and live in the us where life is much better especially for nurses. where majority of the people follow the rule of law, although there are flaws here but it is much better than in the philippines except if you are a son, a relative of a filipino officials/politicians. and here service is service, you go to a department of motor vehicle office and you will know the difference in service compare to our lto there. renewing my driving license in the philippines was not a good experience for me. off topic already......;)

My fear is that divulging such info will affect my chances of being hired. I knew a Chief Nurse back in school who would talk about his frustration over the high turn-over rate of nurses in their hospital. He felt that new nurses are just using them as training ground and will leave after a few months. This leads me to my thinking that employers would, of course, do away with nurses like me whose plan of leaving is already definite and imminent.

However, reading your inputs gave me a feeling of embarrassment. :trout:How shameful :sofahiderof me to be thinking of being dishonest? Thank you for making me realize that what I'm :innerconfcontemplating is not proper. :nono:

This coming week, I'll proceed with my job hunting with all honesty and I'll get back to you for whatever outcome. I know God blesses the steadfast and so I need not be afraid of the truth.

:yelclap:Thanks again and God bless you all. :flowersfo

Let's face the fact that almost all hospitals in the Philippines has high turn over rates, and that some, not all, are using these hospitals as their training ground for employment abroad in the not-so-distant future. Those in the hospital administration should already know that by now. Yes, there may be several hospitals that will not hire you because of that, but there are still many who will be eager enough to accept you, you just need to widen your prospects. :D

I know how you feel, but we all strived hard to pass that exam. With that, we must be proud of what we have accomplished.

Good luck with your job hunting and God bless!

Thank you praeclarus for your nice message. By God's grace, I know I'll find a job.

God bless you, your family and your plans as well!

hi, first of all, congratulations for passing the nclexrn! second of all, i am pretty sure that you are not the first one to passed the nclexrn and being a second courser.. i think you should include it in your resume. during your interview, if they will ask you about it, tell them yes, i have a plan to work out of the country some day.....its not like you will leave the country within six months or so. there are other nurses who did the same thing way before you, so it is understandle that you will eventually leave when the time will come.goodluck!

Thank you for your thoughts, RNHawai4i34! You're right, I'm not alone in this boat. I hope the "time for me to leave" will be sooner. :rotfl:

All the best to you and your loved ones!

i just want to close this thread, as i started it anyway and for the benefit of those who are in the same situation as mine. for those of you, who are wondering if divulging your nclex pass will help you or not in your job hunting, do not think twice of telling the truth. in my own experience, i did not see it as a hindrance. i applied in 4 tertiary hospitals in the south of metro with my resume bearing that i am a us rn. you know what? i got a call from 2 of them, and they are even big hospitals - asian hospital and perpetual hospital.

unfortunately, because of the june 2006 issue, i needed to surrender my prc license and go back to square one. this only shows that indeed "honesty is the best policy."
