To All Nursing Students

Hi everyone,

I have a few questions:

What type of work do you do while in the nursing school?

How many hours do you work?

Does work interfere with your school?

To those that do not work:

How are you going to or pay the bills?

I really need your help. I just don't know what type of work I'm going to do when I start school. I'm sure your input will be a great help for me to resolve my problem.

I am going to work durning the summer as much as I can. Then in the fall when classes start I will drop to part time. If that makes my schedule tight, then I will stop working. I am fortuniate that I have a husband who is very supportive.

If you can afford not to work, then don't. Hospitals I have found can be great to work for.

I work in the ED as a tech. It's great experience as I do phlobotomy, EKG, and CNA work. Not to mention the fact that a couple of the nurses have taken me under their wing and allow me to help with allot of procedures that most CNA's don't get to help with.

In answer to your questions...

1) I currently am a CNA in a LTC, and also do some Home Health Care on the side.

2) I work about 24 hours a week.

3) Work only interferes with school when I wish I had more time to study.

4) As far as paying my bills, my husband works, but we are so far behind this year, it doesn't really help. But this is my dream, and I am going for it, no matter what!

Besides, there are some girls in my class who work full time jobs in addition to school! They amaze me...

I waitressed while in school. The whole time. It didn't interfere w/the hours of school, but it made things difficult when I came home after a long night and had to study and/or work on a paper. You get through it. Try bartending or waiting tables at an expensive restaurant. Most $$ turnout for least amount of time.

I have the easy answer...my husband works while I go to school. I also have a FT job as a SAHM, so it's not like it's a cakewalk or anything! :chuckle

Hey there..i'm a first yr nursing student and i work 16 hrs a week at the hospital as CNA.

I probably can't help, I'm a stay at home mom/student. I work just about every minute that my kid is awake, yes it interferes with my study, but i prefere to see it as school interfering with family time and school usually looses, but i'm somehow still pulling As

waiting tables and bar tending can bring in great money if you are in the right place.

Hi "hanginginthere"!!! I am a full time Production manager in a small factory 40 hrs. a week and a Med. certified CNA "on call" at a small CBRF center in the next town over. I am in the ADN program as a "part time" student (which will take me a year longer). My husband is unable to work due to a disability so I am relying on financial aid and student loans to help with costs. I only need to carry 6 credits a sem. to qualify for aid. OH, and a lot of help from GOD and my faith in him.

I work in the library of our nursing building......that enables me access to anything.

I work 20 hours a week....

It does not interfere with my school work because I get work and studying done.....after all....I work in a library.......

I'm a junior graduating in May 2003.....from a BSN program.......

Ditto. I'm also a SAHM going to school full-time while hubby works. I recently quit my full time job (after having my last baby) as a Corporate Paralegal. Good luck!

I for the first time in all my undergrad, got work-study this year. I work only on Friday, we have no classes from 8:30-5p @7.63/hour the $122 or so q2weeks really helps out and it really does not interfere with my studies
