  1. Hi everyone, I am currently working at a med-surg floor for about a year now since I graduated from nursing school. I'm looking to switch job to a slower pace environment due to the stress. I had an interview to work for acute hemodialysis and another one at a nursing home. They both offered me the job. However, since I didn't know much about hemodialysis I checked allnurses. After I read several threads I wonder If hemodialysis is for me. I preferred hemo over the nursing home due to no sundays. I have to make my decision by tomorrow please help. Is Hemodialysis as stressful as med-surg? Thanks.

  3. Hi, I'm a nursing student at the moment and I understand that nurses have contact with patients that have deadly diseases. We all know that is one description of the job. Some of those diseases can change one's life forever such as AIDS. Consequently, have you nurses ever get infected from those disease or any co-worker you know? If you don't know anyone or know any percentage of those incident that happen please let me know. I know accident will always happen in all kinds of professions for instance, firefighters, policemen and so on . I just need to know how is it for nurses. Thank you.
  4. Hi Chelsea, I'm a student, trying to get into the nursing program in my college. I could have been in the Nursing program already. However, I did not quite know what to take in high school. It's a good thing you ask for advice early so that you'd be prepared when you get to college. What I would recommend are: 1- Try to obtain some A's or B's in high school because if you're going to a university that would reflect good on you. 2- Take pre- algebra, algebra I and II 3- Take biology and make sure you understand it. 4- Take chemistry in your junior or senior year and do good on that one. 5- Last but not least, ask your counselor if they have some kind of nursing class in your school. In my high school they had a nursing class for those who wanted to be a nurse. At the end of completion, students received nurses aides certification. Some of the students in my class worked on it while they were still in high school. It would be great for you to experience that so you could see if nursing is really for you. I hope this could help. Good Luck!
  5. Hi, I Was advise to take the CNA certification so that I could work on it, While I'm going for my associate degree in nursing. However, one of my sisters who took the CNA program told me that the job is about cleaning the elderlies doodoos and lots of other nasty things. She herself after gotten her certificate never worked on it. Anoter sister of mine is currently a student in the medical field told me she saw the CNA's in the hospital and they are not treated fairly. They have no prestige. It's a real humiliating job. After hearing all that, it made me rethink my decision. However, I still don't know if I want to get into something like that. Can you please let me know the CNA's real job. Thanks a lot for your help.
  6. Hi, I'm 20 years old, living on my own and planning to start the nursing program in the fall 2001. I have to pay all my bills and pay cash for my school. I've talked to a lot of nursing students and they said that it's going to be hard working while going to school. Consequently, I was wondering; any suggestions of full time jobs I could do without it interfer with my school. Thanks for your help.
