Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Why are they processing "international applications" quicker than US applications? Shouldn't they just process them in the order received?

Also, I keep seeing these nurse travel agencies advertise that they have "expedited" CA RN licensing with the BRN. Stating that you will have your license in 4-6 weeks? Doesn't this seem unethical?

Indeed it does. They even sign you on contract within that time frame assuming it will be done. I unfortunately fell for it. It has indeed been done before by 4 weeks! (I'm not as lucky) However, it's not a guarantee because no company does the actually processing and it's left in the hands of the board of nursing. They justify this because the BRN claims that their original "processing times" begin from when you send it in.. Of course, once they application package, they then say that the time only starts when they cash the check out. So that's days/weeks of mail time and cashing out the money, etc. My agency claims theirs is expedited because they first overnight ship you a application package with a guide and to do list. Fingerprints are done in your local town on their official card and the same application for Cali 's endorsement stuff. They have an overnight return box prepped for you to send everything completed AND encourage cash to be sent do avoid the waiting period of getting to it and cashing it in. Now, they have a liason to walk on your application directly to the BRN and pay the upfront. This is the majority of the speed. The liason comes to check on it when they are delayed and request it to be looked at ASAP (because usually, they have their applicants already contracted ).... So yep, deceiving claims huh?

We we're received the EXACT same day!!

My deficiencies are blank now too. Have you talked to the BRN?

I hate this waiting game

I made two formal complaints and I did receive one email saying they would forward my complaint but after that nothing happened. Hope we get some news soon!

Hi everyone,

My wait has finally come to an end! I've been following the feed quite a bit and wanted to give you my timeline.

End of April- transcripts mailed and fingerprints completed with livescan in CA

May 11- hand delivered application to BRN office (with sealed transcripts)

May 23- application received according to Breeze/check cashed

July 6- pending temporary license application appeared on Breeze

July 28- I checked Breeze and my temporary license number had been posted!

A little over 9 weeks from when the check was cashed. Maybe the board is finally getting it together. Best of luck to the rest of you!!

Omg! that gives me so much hope! I have been waiting and my start date has been rescheduled twice since July 5th and is August 8th now. I was hoping to drive there from Philadelphia this weekend, but also don't want to go too early and just spend what I haven't started making yet. Thank's for posting!

ctabs14 How did you find out your fingerprints were rejected? I sent in a fingerprint card as I dont live near a Live Scan area.

I called. One week I was told they were just waiting for my fingerprints to come back and to call back in 1-2 weeks. I called the next week and was told they were rejected and they would be sending a letter via snail mail about what to do next.

I am eagerly waiting for endorsement too. I'm from NJ. I applied for endorsement online on May 25, 2016. I got my fingerprint hard card

about within 10 days. Sent my 2x2 identification photo with a letter like 2 weeks after applied online because I forgot I needed to send the 2x2 photo. I was wondering if I need to send the 2x2 photo with a print-out of my online application or is the letter I sent with my photo okay? I provided my social security number in my letter. If not, I will just send the photo again. I noticed one week ago they started to process applications from March 16-31! Its been two months but I'm patiently waiting. I hope it doesn't take to 5-6 months like someone hear says. -_-

So online it says to submit everything via attachment, and if you want a temp license then send the application in with the 50$ (anyone correct me if Im wrong). I mailed in my temp application with the stuff I attached online. I even scanned the 2x2 photo. My application still says pending how bout yours? I tried to cancel my temp application and they said money order was cashed already (July 14, sent in July1st)

My timeline so far:

Transcripts sent 7/20.

Livescan completed, application with attachments submitted online, and paid to have Alabama verify my license to CA on 7/25.

7/25 application says pending with no deficiencies. Still says that today. I also have an area that has a payment receipt on breeze saying that payment was received 7/25.

Alabama BON said they sent verification 7/26. Livescan was submitted 7/26 per the phone number to call with ATI number.

I've followed this thread a lot during my endorsement application process, so I wanted to share my experience as well.

May 5 - Paper application and check submitted in person

May 11 - Check cashed

May 12 - Got email to activate Breeze account

May 31 - Went to BRN office to check on my application because Breeze status said "missing education history." The front desk employee was able to pull my folder and actually look at my application. Also did Live Scan.

(Unrelated, but this is the only way I found out that my nursing school did not, in fact, list all my pre-reqs on their transcript like they said they could. I would recommend ordering all transcripts just in case because the BRN wouldn't have told me until reviewing my application if I didn't specifically ask.)

June 23 - First noticed that my Breeze status said "open" and not "missing education history"

July 1 - Spouse went to office on my behalf (with a signed letter of authorization from me) to check on my application. The front office person was able to confirm they received my license verification and background checks but said she couldn't check my transcripts.

July 15 - Filed a complaint with the CA Department of Consumer Affairs

July 21 - Licensed after 11 weeks

Between June 13-July 15, I called the BRN more times than I can count to check on the status of my application (if everything was received since my state Board of Nursing does not participate in Nursesys - my state board did have to re-send, if there were anymore issues that came up, etc.) and to verify that all pre-reqs were met (I've never taken any communications or public speaking class but have taken many literature, composition, humanities, linguistics, research, etc. classes).

The number listed on the BRN website is actually for a call center, not the BRN office you can go to in person, that has no access to your actual application. There's an "administrative office" (whatever that means) you can call where somebody actually picks up in a timely fashion and seems to actually try to answer your questions by looking up your application or putting you on hold to ask a licensing specialist/licensing supervisor. Besides being able to go in person, this was the most helpful avenue during my application process.

The DCA said they would forward my complaint on to the BRN. I didn't receive any other follow up from the DCA or the BRN besides my license number showing up on Breeze when I randomly checked.

I encourage you all to be persistent and to keep on top of the BRN - there's hope!!!

I filed a complaint with the BRN, the Department of Consumer Affairs as well as with the Governor's office on Friday, July 16th. The Department of Consumer Affairs responded first stating that they would forward my complain to the BRN. Then the Governor's office responded that they would forward my compliant to the Department of Consumer Affairs. Ugh....

Do you already live in CA? I think complaints with local politicians carry a lot more weight if you're already a constituent.
