Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

At least it looks like they are issuing temporary licenses again. I applied for one as well but they just kept my money and never sent me one.

Hi,

I'm from Nebraska trying to get license in Cali because my fiancé lives there. The California board of nursing does not make things easy! I learned about breeze, how to find the status of my application ( pending) and what "...TX in suspension.." means from reading posts here. I did the live scan, and the Nursy, but it sounds like it's 6 weeks minimum and no one seems to have ever gotten a temp license ( I paid for one of those too). Thanks to everyone who posted.

Hi Rxwoman, is there a specific thing I must do to see the application status through the Breeze website? I sent my application sometime in September, they cashed my check Oct 6, but when I log in, nothing shows up under the "License/Registration Information" area. Is it simply because they have not even started to process my application, should I just keep checking in every week or so and give it time? I know that they state in their website to give 6-8 weeks before even calling them. I just want to have a way to know that all of my documents are there and things are moving as smooth as possible.

Laudamia: I was posting on here earlier this year and it took me a ridiculous amount of time to get my license. Nothing on breeze ever indicated anything was being done on my application. Each time I called, I was told "there's no reason you shouldn't have your license by now". Finally, after many weeks, someone checked to see what the scoop was and the next day I had my license. I now have two entries on the CA BON website. One with the wrong middle name which is labeled "former name" and one with the correct middle name. What it boils down to is that someone who was entering information made an assumption, based on an initial, that my middle name was something it has never been so everything was under that name until someone bothered to investigate based on my SSN. I have to assume that office is crazy busy and things do not work like clockwork. Don't expect logical or reasonable explanations for delays. Mistakes on the part of whoever inputs the information take weeks to detect. Sad but true. I almost fainted when I finally got my license; it does happen eventually but trying to make logical assumptions about the timeline are futile.

Hi Laudamia,

I submitted my app, and did the Nursy and live scan in late September as well. I paid with money order so I don't really know when it was cashed. I just know that I was not aware that one should make an account on Breeze as opposed to just running a license check until I read it on here. I made an account on Breeze on Oct. 12th and found I was in the system ( it says date app submitted) on Oct 10th so it sounds like it took a good 2 + weeks before anyone opened my stuff and put me in the Breeze system. I hope that helps.

Iv`e also been through your frustration!! I applied April 4 & after waiting 2+ months, I received a letter stating I needed oral communications! After several phone calls & leaving msgs, I finally got through to lady that was assigned to my app. She apologized stating that they had hired extra help to process apps & that person had made a mistake. In mid July, I received my license. Our house has been on the market since Aug. 1. We really wanted to be in California before winter. (Live in Iowa). Just wanted to say that your license will come with perseverance!! Good luck in Cal & hang in there!!! Where are you moving too? We plan to relocate to So. Cal (Irvine, Laguna Hills). Do you know of any specific places that are good to work for?

Hey all. Just an update. They cashed my check on Sept 4. And I got my Calif license today! And that was with finger-print cards (not live scan) AND with an arrest (w/ dismissal) that I had to explain. Got a letter last week telling me to expect a delay because of it. So I was prepared for another who-knows-how-long but I guess I was wrong. Sooo happy. Keep the faith!

Congrats Sean! They cashed my check on September 3rd and I'm still waiting.

Yay Sean! Geversol, it seems like northern CA has a bigger demand than SOCAL. My guy lives in San Diego and I had looked at the travel nurse thing and San Diego didn't have nearly the demand that San Francisco, or Sacramento do.

Thanks, Perfexion and Rxwoman! I've been talking to a recruiter from Am Mobile and she tells me she will have no problem finding me an assignment in the Bay Area, and this is after only 14 months of RN med-surg experience. Kaiser seems to be the big one with AM, which is fine with me because I would love to move into a staff job with Kaiser at some point. She told me AM would pay my moving expenses (up to $750), my license fees (ACLS too), and housing or a $2000 housing stipend. I'm still not 100% sure about any of this since this will be my first time traveling but will keep y'all updated.

Good for you Sean. I had recruiters blowing up my phone for a while there too after looking into travel nursing. You probably already know this, but from what I've read about travel nursing contracts and recruiters is to read all the fine print carefully, and get EVERYTHING in writing on your contract. Good luck!

Thats awesome Sean!! Good advice that Rxwoman gave you. Be careful. I dont have any experience as a travel nurse but I was interested at one time & they didnt stop calling for weeks. Decided it wasn`t for me at this time. After reading some remarks about experience with some companies, such as not holding up to promises, I decided if I were to become serious I would need to do alot of research! Try Better Business Bureau? RXwoman; Thank you for info. Want to move to SOCAL though, have family there.
