Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Does anyone know what it means if it says "tx in suspense" on your pending application?

Alishia I think that means they are combing your transcripts with a fine tooth comb, which, we all agree, is dumb, unnecessary and just plain insulting, but whatever. It just adds another month or two to your wait time.

For a couple of weeks mine said "pending" and under deficiencies it said "Education History Missing" (or something like that). Then a couple of weeks ago that disappeared. So I assumed they must have checked out my transcripts, which I had to send from 5 different schools over 25 years! But then I called the board on Monday and a guy told me that that didn't necessarily mean my transcripts had been ok'd. Then the guy asked me if I wanted my evaluater to call me and I said "sure". Have yet to hear from this person. My check was cashed on 9/3. Will update my progress here.

Yeah, the Breeze updates allegedly don't reflect our application status. The rep I spoke with told me to disregard those updates.

I eventually had to send out transcripts from all six colleges I attended. I initially sent out only those transcripts from nursing school and institutions where I had taken my nursing prerequisites. The BRN then requested all college transcripts (even though my "missing educational history" status disappeared) and I overnighted the remaining transcripts immediately. I didn't know that more transcripts were requested or which specific courses they were looking for until I spoke with someone in the licensing unit. I also requested a phone call from my evaluator and didn't hear back, but I don't think that is a bad thing as I just received my endorsement today!

Thus I think it helps to touch base with the BRN even if you don't get a callback. I also think they are beginning to catch up with the backlog. I hope the rest of you receive endorsement soon!

Congratulations! I know when I log onto Breeze and see that license number I will shout out in exaltation. How long did it take you from check cash to endorsement? I have to put in two months notice on my apt and I have a recruiter I'm working with who is trying to get me to commit to contracts for November/December. I'm thinking I should probably just anticipate a move during Christmas time and a contract start date shortly after the start of the new year. This, of course, is assuming my fingerprint cards are acceptable and usable. Wish me luck.

Thanks Sean! It took about five weeks from my check being cashed to receiving endorsement and roughly ten weeks since I mailed the application out. I applied via livescan, nursys and rush delivery of all transcripts. Wishing you luck, keep in touch with them regarding receipt of transcripts and your fingerprint cards. It is probably a good idea to project a slightly later date (as you mention above) just in case, but I hope you are endorsed sooner!

Here’s My Experience

- May 2014: Request for transcript forms completed and forwarded directly from the nursing schools with certified transcripts. I attended an ADN program and two BSN programs all located in Texas. (I failed myself out of BSN program #1, transferred some of my nursing credits over to the ADN program, and graduated with an ADN and a BSN from a BSN program #2.) Total number of transcripts: 3

- Tuesday, June 10th, 2014: I flew to San Francisco, California to do a Live Scan fingerprint process and mailed in my application at one of their UPS locations.

-Saturday, June 28th, 2014: Electronically sent my Nursys License Verification.

- Tuesday, July 15th, 2014: My check was deposited.

- Monday, July 28th, 2014: I received an email from Department of Consumer Affairs Online Service to update my email address associated with my Online Services Account. At that time, I had no idea I was automatically in the BreEZe system the day my check was deposited.

- Thursday, September 18th, 2014: At 1000 Central Time, I called California BRN at 1-800-838-6828 to check the status of my application. I waited 10-15 minutes for my call to be answered. A polite and helpful older lady named Gayle (spelling?) told me:

- They are working on all of the mid-June applications at this time (including mine).

- My Live Scan fingerprints are received and cleared. She said the background check is the "biggest hurdle to overcome."

- I have no deficiencies. I submitted everything they requested.

- Check back with them 2-3 weeks from now. The application process should be completed by then.

- Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014: Application complete! I’m officially endorsed!

Here are the contact numbers regarding the status of the background checks:

-Live Scan (give your ATI number and DOB) 916-227-4557

-Paper fingerprint cards (leave a detailed message and someone will call you back. They tell you what information to leave on the recording) 916-227-3835

Thank you cecilbee1 for providing the contact information.

Yay, I finally received my license number!!

Short timeline: I applied 07/03/14 and did live scan fingerprints & nursesys that day. Transcripts were sent out 07/08/14 directly from the school. Cash was checked 08/01/14, my application popped up on Breeze on 08/01/14 as "transcript hx missing" (which does not mean much) and changed to "pending" on 08/06/14. 09/26/14: received endorsement.

Total wait time: 12 weeks from mailing out applications, 8 weeks from the time the check was cashed.

I am not sure if this had anything to do with it, but after waiting all these weeks without any communication from the BON I finally called the 1-800-838-6828 number on 09/25/14. I talked to some nice lady who told me that fingerprints were approved and there was no note that anything was missing, and to call back in a week to check on my status again, since supposably the BON was still processing early July applications. Today my number is popping up on Breeze. Coincidence? I am not so sure...:cautious:

Wishing speedy proccessing time for all the ones still waiting!

I am a current RN in Colorado. I turned in my application with the hard copy of my fingerprints August 2nd. Requested my BSN transcripts the same week and my school stated that the BON received it August 27th per their records.

My check got processed on sept 9th.

I called the 1800 number today and they stated that my finger prints were sent out for processing. At this time the only timeline they told me was they weren't going to start my application until the end of october and would probably receive my license if everything cleared by November... their reasoning was because they were still processing the June applications .... AUGH!

I also asked if they needed my prerequisite transcripts since I received my pre-reqs from a different school and they said yes. So I did that too.

I guess now its just a waiting game I am so paranoid they will find something wrong such as my finger prints being ineligible or that they never received my transcripts.....

I currently have a job in san francisco thats suppose to start mid november!!! If I don't have my license by then, i can't work.

I really hope that I can get it before then... finding a job during the holidays is going to be a challenge.

Ill keep ya'll updated with my timeline. thanks for all you updates!

Congrats on finally getting your license. In the past 2 wks I have heard of nurses getting their licenses in 6 wks-dont know if I believe it but they both said they didnt send in their transcripts until their check was cashed. The felt the ball started rolling once the check was cashed.

Could be, I don't think it makes much difference when you send the transcripts. I was told it takes 1-2 weeks from the date the check was cashed (at minimum) before anybody actually looks at the application, so that would allow enough time to request the transcripts then. I am hoping that people get their licenses quicker in the near future as the BON & Breeze hopefully work out the kinks with the new data system.
