Hey, sc0811. After trying to send you a longish reply, I got a message telling me I can't send PM's, that I need 15 quality threads or something. Nice feature. At any rate, I'll be more succinct and summarize the content here: Thanks for your advice! (obviously something is lost in concision). :)

May I ask what your specialty is and what agency you're going with? I've been talking with an agency that is quoting me pay rates in the $33-$35/hr + housing ($2000 stipend).
  3. I attended Sac State over 20 years ago, where I got my degree in another field. But I did attend nursing school here in Texas later in life. I was 45 when I graduated and have been at it for a year. It was odd being both older and a male, one of probably 10 or 11 in a class of 85. I recall feeling particularly embarrassed when there were things I didn't grasp or skills I didn't perform correctly because I felt like my classmates were mentally rolling their eyes and thinking, "This bumbling old guy is pathetic!" But you just keep plugging on and remember why you are there. Once you are on the floor, I think you'll find that your maturity and understanding will be of massive benefit for your patients--and these are things they cannot teach you in school. You just have to live it.
  4. Thanks, Perfexion and Rxwoman! I've been talking to a recruiter from Am Mobile and she tells me she will have no problem finding me an assignment in the Bay Area, and this is after only 14 months of RN med-surg experience. Kaiser seems to be the big one with AM, which is fine with me because I would love to move into a staff job with Kaiser at some point. She told me AM would pay my moving expenses (up to $750), my license fees (ACLS too), and housing or a $2000 housing stipend. I'm still not 100% sure about any of this since this will be my first time traveling but will keep y'all updated.
  5. Hey all. Just an update. They cashed my check on Sept 4. And I got my Calif license today! And that was with finger-print cards (not live scan) AND with an arrest (w/ dismissal) that I had to explain. Got a letter last week telling me to expect a delay because of it. So I was prepared for another who-knows-how-long but I guess I was wrong. Sooo happy. Keep the faith!
  6. Good news. I'm also endorsing from TX. BRN cashed my check on 9/3. Confirmed today my fingerprint cards came back cleared. The lady I spoke with still quoted me 90 days from the date the check was cashed. I'm hoping that's just their standard response and that I, like you, will be approved much sooner.
  7. Congratulations! I know when I log onto Breeze and see that license number I will shout out in exaltation. How long did it take you from check cash to endorsement? I have to put in two months notice on my apt and I have a recruiter I'm working with who is trying to get me to commit to contracts for November/December. I'm thinking I should probably just anticipate a move during Christmas time and a contract start date shortly after the start of the new year. This, of course, is assuming my fingerprint cards are acceptable and usable. Wish me luck.
  8. For a couple of weeks mine said "pending" and under deficiencies it said "Education History Missing" (or something like that). Then a couple of weeks ago that disappeared. So I assumed they must have checked out my transcripts, which I had to send from 5 different schools over 25 years! But then I called the board on Monday and a guy told me that that didn't necessarily mean my transcripts had been ok'd. Then the guy asked me if I wanted my evaluater to call me and I said "sure". Have yet to hear from this person. My check was cashed on 9/3. Will update my progress here.
  9. Same here, perfexion. And I am fully expecting my finger print cards to fail. Just the optimist in me. I'm in Texas but might as well be in Maine; not really drivable. Wanted to be in California by December, and I have a recruiter telling me she's got assignments galore for me in the Bay Area. At this point, what optimism I possess is based on something miraculous happening.
  10. Bikini season? But seriously, umm, well, let's see. When I said "kid," I didn't mean "child". I meant teenager. And the reason I drank it was because I wanted to drink soda and avoid the calories associated with sugary softdrinks! I played sports in high school (football and baseball) and keeping my weight down was a primary concern.

I'm a month or two away from my California license and am in the same boat as you. I was born and raised in the Bay Area and am dying to get back there. I've got a recruiter from American Mobile who calls me once a week to check on my license status. She's very nice and enthusiastic and makes it sound like getting me into a Kaiser facility will be a breeze. But I'm a little nervous about it all since this will be my fist travel assignment after one year of RN experience. If anyone out there has any info on how keen Kaiser is about hiring on travelers, I'd love to hear about it. sc0811, hope you don't mind me piggybacking my question onto your thread. :)
  12. I've probably consumed a metric ton of aspartame since I was a kid, just in diet sodas alone. It wasn't until I got to nursing school that I heard anything about stroke risk. Since then I've switched to sucralose because it's cheaper than stevia. I wish I knew how people were able to drink unsweetened tea!
  13. You can do an admit or a discharge with the Navigator, which you will find on the left side bar down toward the bottom. The way I do it is I work my way down through the navigator and when it's complete, I go to "req [uired] docs", which you should be able to find on the bottom window of your main page and then complete whatever may have been missed. As for ticket to ride, you should have a button on your window that says just that. "Ticket to ride". I just click on it from within that patient's chart, and go down to the bottom window, right click and hit print. I create my patient list by going to "My Unit" on the upper left part of the screen and then simply finding my patients, right clicking and selecting "treatment team" and adding myself, my shift time and my ascom phone number. You can also just right click and select "Assign me" but then that won't add your other info (shift, phone #). Hope that helped a little.
