Those studying for the CPNE- here's a huge tip

Nursing Students Excelsior

Published

I paid the $50 to have the study guide printed and put on paper.

If you do NOTHING else, print pages 411-491.

Everything that you need to pass is on these pages. These are the actual check off sheets that the examiners will be using to check to make sure that you are following things according to the "Excelsior Way."

I am pulling these pages out and taking them with me every where I go.

I strongly recommend doing this- it simplifies everything, and there will be absolutely no question as to what they are looking for, and you will only be studying what you need to know, not all the extra stuff.

This has changed my whole look and studying process here. I am also using Rob's CPNE dvd, but these sheets are the way to go for me.

Good luck!

Hello to everyone,

I just started Nursing this fall 2010. I am taking the Fundamentals of Nursing,

and is so much to read, this is all I do all days long and I am still behind.

I have been readind all nurses.com from this summer and I find helpful all the messages and advises between Nursing Students and Nurses.

But I can not understand some things like those Excelsior, Rob's DVD's, or "if you do nothing ptint pages 411-491, is everything you need to pass is on these pages". Is this for Fundamentals? Where would I go to print? Please anyone help...........Thank you!

Veola, these discussions are specifically related to Excelsior College's clinical exam. Unless you are an Excelsior student, these things will not pertain to you. Best of luck!

What is the Clinical Prep Nursing Exam?

What is the Clinical Prep Nursing Exam?

It's actually the Clinical Performance Nursing Examination, and it is for Excelsior College students who have completed their coursework and are ready to "test out" of their nursing clinicals.

OK ... I am new here ... WHAT GUIDE??? I would be ever so grateful for some direction to prepare for the CPNE. It's coming up for me ... possibly in February and I just feel like there is so much for me to learn. HELP!!! :rotfl: !!!

the cpne study guide 7th edition is what you need if you will be testing after august 2010. read that front to back multiple times and know your critical elements. did you buy any materials to prepare for your cpne? are you going to a workshop? did you watch some type of videos to see what simulation labs look like?

to be honest, i read the cpne study guide like 2x before going to a workshop and it did not make sense until i did tina logan's workshop. if you will go to a workshop, i highly recommend going to her. she's in pa.

good luck studying.

i think you meant to say 17th edition. this is the most up to date version available.

WOW!!! Los of great help here! I found post #13 ... you folks are awesome!!!! I take my last excelsior exam on the 21st of this month and then begins the prep for CPNE. I am just now starting to look in to the study materials available. Is the "7th edition Study Guide" available through excelsior? Where do I find it??? I'll be doing the Chancellor's CarePlan program and can't really afford to go to any other seminars ... wondering how I will pull off the CPNE for that matter, but I will make it happen. It's been a long road to get here and I am getting excited about being able to see the end in sight ... getting my RN :yeah:

Thank you for all the great and encouraging posts. I will a regular here so I have a feeling! :)

MikelS, Excelsior should be making the study guide available to you by download once you're CPNE-eligible, after they update your status. :) And Angel meant 17th, not 7th edition. Good luck!!

sorry about the typo. yes, i meant cpne study guide 17th edition. excelsior will mail you a cd once you are cpne eligible but you can also download it straight from the website. it is 500+ pages, pdf files. i printed it off work for free. i know some people here who got it bound for 20 or 30 bucks i think. i did mine for free and put in a big binder. i also "borrowed" :D some iv supplies from work to use for lab simulations.

to be honest, i don't know how i could have passed my cpne without a workshop. the cpne study guide is like written in an alien language that must be decipher first in order for you to understand it. i learned so many things from my workshop and the whole cpne study guide made sense to me after the workshop. i know cpne costs like 2000 bucks already but my mentality was i didn't care to spend 700 bucks more (hotel included) for the workshop just to make sure i pass the first time around. but that is just me. there are people here who did pass without a workshop so it is possible. good luck!

Nurse430,

What is Rob's CPNE DVD? I am rounding up as many study aids as I can find, but am not familiar with this one!

Thanks

Rob's CPNE DVD is a DVD put out by Rob (naturally) a guy who passed CPNE some time back. He has his own website where he sells this DVD as well as one for the lab stations. Most people who have ever viewed his DVD swear by it, although there are a few errors that he points out on his website. Check it out: CPNE video help with how to pass, tips tricks. areas of care 20 minute checks
