Those studying for the CPNE- here's a huge tip

I paid the $50 to have the study guide printed and put on paper.

If you do NOTHING else, print pages 411-491.

Everything that you need to pass is on these pages. These are the actual check off sheets that the examiners will be using to check to make sure that you are following things according to the "Excelsior Way."

I am pulling these pages out and taking them with me every where I go.

I strongly recommend doing this- it simplifies everything, and there will be absolutely no question as to what they are looking for, and you will only be studying what you need to know, not all the extra stuff.

This has changed my whole look and studying process here. I am also using Rob's CPNE dvd, but these sheets are the way to go for me.

Smart girl. :) You'd be surprised how many students don't make it that far through the study guide ... I'm just sayin'. The weekend before my CPNE, my buddy Lisa B. called me and we studied over the phone for a couple of hours, and she used those sheets to critique me as I verbalized my way through every area of care, double-checking that my mnemonics hit all the high points as well (I knew they did, but this was a final test of putting them in action, sorta).

I am so excited for you to finish!! :)

Now I feel that I will be 100% ready come October 8th.

Hell, by that time, I'll have memorized the whole darn check off sheets! Much easier than a "GRID" or Mnemonics, if you ask me!

I needed my grid/mnemonics to keep me on track during my PCSs ... not that it saved me from failing a PCS for not IDing my patient properly (duh), but that's because it was my last PCS and I was losing focus and didn't look at my grid. LOL.

Not everyone uses mnemonics. My friend Ed just knew every step for each AOC as outlined in those sheets, and it worked for him. :)

Lunah - I appreciate all your posts. You seem to have alot of helpful tips for Excelsior. I will probably be bugging you alot in the future ;)

that's how i studied for and passed my CPNE in May. I made my mnuemonics off of those pages!!! :) like for O2 management, i did

ROCOPS

Response to activity

02 status( 3 C= color,cap refill or clubbing)

Condition of skin in contact with oxygen devices

02 maintained by (check pulse ox, check flowmeter if needed)

Pt. response to care

Spark free environment. (I think they may have omitted this one in the 17th edition)

Yes they did remove "old sparky" in the 17th edition and your mneumonic lokks great:yeah:

This is so true! I got the thing printed and took those specific pages and had them bound into a spiral book at office max and carried them around with me everywhere. Sounds like your gonna do Great!
