The abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.

The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood.  I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Why do you suppose that JD Vance said that Trump was America's Hitler?

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/jd-vance-once-compared-trump-hitler-now-they-are-running-mates-2024-07-15/

In 2016 and during his presidency, I more often compared him to Mussolini.  A Hitler reference in 2016 seems extreme.

California Sen. Kamala Harris calls out Biden on the issue of race, saying the way he recently described his past working relationship with two segregationist lawmakers was "hurtful."

Biden, at a campaign event earlier this month, had cited his ability to get things done even with segregationist senators as examples of the type of "civility" in Congress that has since disappeared.

I'll expose you instead. If you truly think Trump is a threat and will literally inact a Nazi type authoritarian dictatorship if elected, then you shouldn't be saying that is was inappropriate for someone to attempt to assisinate him. Neither should Biden or any other Democrat that made this defamation against Trump that most likely motivated the try hard assassin.

You should be praising the try hard assassin for attempting to kill Trump (Hitler) and giving bonus points for killing one Nazi follower (fire fighter killed) and almost taking out 2 more Nazi followers. No?

So in effect, using your logic, you literally said it was bad that someone tried to kill Hitler. When almost everyone would consider such person a hero. I mean, who wouldn't want Hitler killed?

Or your're full of it and do not really believe your own propaganda? Use of irresponsible hyperbolic language has proven time and again to be dangerous. Sometimes it incites a resurrection, and sometimes it incites an assassination.

At least subee, while their comments were disgusting and abhorrent, isn't  a hypocrite.

I apparently don't embrace violence in the way you do.  I believe in the Democratic process, not violence, to achieve political goals.  Maybe you think that some violence is OK as long as it's not against someone you like?

No, I don't praise assassins or other violent killers or agents of chaos.  I believe in law and order.

You can't assign your logic to me.  I am a pacifist and don't want anyone killed.  I follow the teachings of Christ in that regard.

Am I supposed to be troubled that you believe and state that I'm a hypocrite because I don't advocate violence?  LOL

He probably said Trump was "American hitler" because he was engaging in hyperbolic propaganda. Seems common these days....

Not everyone is cemented in their beliefs.  He may have bought into that foolish propaganda about Trump. I did. Then I did not.

Why do you suppose Kamala inferred Biden was racist?

Because Biden needed to clarify that history, that's why Harris made it a point.  Harris certainly didn't decide that she wanted to be VP and then start telling lies about race relations or acting like a racist to gain favor with Biden.

On the other hand, that's exactly what Vance did... compared Trump to Hitler and then started lying about election results just like Trump and letting us know that he would give Trump what he wanted if he had been in Pence's position on 010621.

Correct on William Shirer.  My mistake.

The article I linked to is by a historian who wrote a trilogy on the subject with similar titled books.  He still seems well-qualified on the subject.  Don't you agree?

***

Many people have a more positive opinion of Trump now than they did before his term.

Heck, people who voted for Biden over him now realize their mistake and are going to vote for Trump.

I don't know enough about JD Vance to take a guess on what changed his mind.

Do you think Kamala changed her mind on Biden's past racist actions, or did she simply go for the power grab?

Yep.  The guy is an expert on the subject.  He certainly did say that Trump was destructive and harmful to our republic but wouldn't compare him to Hitler.  I don't agree.  Trump uses the same tactics and communications strategies to con people that Hitler used.

I don't have any idea how many people think highly of Trump, it's too many given the unsavory and corrupt nature of Trump's character and behavior.  Too many people don't realize what a failure he was at providing for the health and general welfare of we the people during a public health emergency or have forgotten the chaos and corruption that were features in Trump's cabinet and administration.  I guess we'll find out in November if enough people have forgotten about Trump's incompetence or have been convinced by misrepresentations that Trump is a better choice than Biden.

Sure, some former Biden voters might not vote for Biden.  I believe that.  Heck, there are entire groups of Republicans who have established and influential media endeavors to help defeat Trump at the ballot box. Groups like Americans for Prosperity or The Lincoln Project or The Bulwark. There are more groups but those are the groups that I'm most familiar with.  I personally know some people who voted one way in 2020 who won't be voting that same way in 2024 and they aren't switching their votes to the guy who lied about the election and invited a mob to the Capitol and then just watched and tweeted encouragement while they expended some violent energy trying to "stop the steal". But that's anecdotal, like your observation about Biden voters.

I think Harris changed her mind because there's little evidence that Biden is much of a bigot or racist at this point in his life. His cabinet and administration staffing reflects that.  What do you think?

In Vance's case, the evidence that Trump is uncomfortably similar to Hitler hasn't been dispelled or diminished.  Trump too often says or does things which evoke thoughts of Hitler and his devoted fans respond to the lies in ways eerily similar to the huge rallies held in early 1930s Germany. That makes it appear that Vance adjusted his remarks to gain the VP nod. Maybe you have a different view that you'd like to share.

Ugly indeed.

I've seen ugly glimpses of characters here before, but it's been ratched up a few notches in the past few months and even more so in the last few days.

I'm not saying that you're saying the same thing.  Just sharing my view.

Great idea for a hiatus.  I'll join you.

I think it's ugly that members are making multiple posts about praising assassination attempts if the targeted in individualcan be portrayed as bed enough to deserve it.  I think that kind of violent thinking is suggestive that the member is feeling too emotional about the discussions and threat a hiatus is possibly a good idea.

Well Trump clarified his fine people comment and it wasn't accepted was it? Even after that lie has been debunked there is still people claiming, including Biden that he gave such accolades to neo nazis and white nationalists. So no.

Biden doesn't get a pass for referring to schools as "racial jungles" or marveling over how well spoken and put together Obama was for a black man. Nor does he get excused for his Indian accent comment or his praise of segregationist senators (what Kamala said). Or supporting the war on drugs and super predator comments.

No excuse for giving an eulogy to a former kKK member or telling black people they are not black if they don't vote for him.

His "clarification" is not accepted.

Maybe Trump isn't believable and/ or there's other evidence that Trump is a racist. Shrugs.  You get to guess why people didn't believe Trump, we all do.

It's funny that you think that Biden got a pass and hasn't been questioned about his political past right after you give an example of Biden facing questions and accusations about his past.

That's fine, there's no obligation for a Trump supporter to believe Trump's political opponent.

A pass from you. I'm sure you have noticed there is a very big difference in how the media portrays Trump and Biden. The left dominant msm has until recently either avoided or outright lied about the obvious cognitive decline. Perhaps this is why Biden has rarely had to answer for his past racist rhetoric?

I guess The Proud Boys don't count anymore as neoNazis:(  Another standard is slipping.  Trump loved his Proud Boys.
