QuoteThe abortion law builds on legislation passed in 2010 that represented a major shift for a traditionally Catholic country, transforming Spain into one of the most progressive countries in Europe on reproductive rights. Spain's constitutional court last week rejected a challenge by the right-wing Popular Party against allowing abortions in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy.
The debate will be heated in Spain, I imagine, as the conservative opposition pushes back. My daughter had horrible menstrual pain during her adolescence and young adulthood. I'm certain that she would have benefitted from that time.

Nope, and that's not even the scariest part of the article.

Karen, this was good read. Even after I read the excerpt I stayed up about 2.5 extra hrs reading the comments. Refreshing to see so many people finally waking up.

Peter Thiel needs to be " excused" from polite society. Loves Steve Carrel's impersonation of him in Mountain Head.

Leveling the playing field so that everyone can try to have a fair chance is what Affirmative Action, DEI, non-discrimination is about.
Everyone has a fair chance at sustainable living, that is the beautiful thing about capitalism. In our system you get to choose your economic class and whether you can afford a living. DEI/Affirmative Action are both racism and unconstitutional. Race, Gender, Religion, etc should have no bearing on academic admissions or employment.
Asian and Indian Americans have been at an advantage since affirmative action fostered an environment of black/hispanic/female privilege in academia and regardless of this systemic advantage they have become the top 2 household incomes on average. It's called good family values and seizing the opportunity the American dream allows us.

Peter Thiel is incredible. I suggest his book "Zero to One" to any young person getting started in their financial journey. The man is an inspiration.

This isn't true, if it were, you wouldn't have such a great divide of wealth. You wouldn't have poor, lower class, lower middle class, middle class etc. The system is set up so that not everyone can have and afford to have an affordable sustainable living. And for some that do (work/ make money every day) they still struggle.

They're not. They were formed because although we've adopted discrimination policies and practices in the workforce, it didn't necessary mean inclusion. Yes you shouldn't treat people from other races unfairly but that doesn't mean they should be excluded so you don't have to deal with them at all.

Correct, but we also live in a very diverse society. Not everyone has or will ever have some of the advantages that are freely given to others. Does that mean we keep the people with great advantage and wealth at the top so as not to give anyone who could probably do just as well but are at a disadvantage less of an opportunity.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can one-size-fit-all all non-white races as if they are interchangeable parts of some minority system that they can boast about with such confidence as if they embodied all those different ethnically diverse cultures and their struggles and then make judgments about them. But carry on.

This is what struck me: the cognitive dissonance triggered by the use of "capitalism" and "sustainable" in the same sentence.

What I'm trying to say is DEI and Affirmative Action were put in place in the workforce and education system so that you would want to hire/educate people from diverse backgrounds, It was a progressive movement in society as we became more and more diverse, again to make the workplace fair and marketable or as you said earlier, 'everyone should be able to have a sustainable living', especially in a diverse society. And while some companies started to adopt anti-discrimination polices that didn't necessarily mean they had a diverse population of employees or wanted to hire a diverse population of employees which again, leaves the gap wide open for income disparities.
"Yes you shouldn't treat people from other races unfairly but that doesn't mean they should be excluded so you don't have to deal with them at all."
I could be wrong, but at times it seems like your posts seem to stir toward excluding others hence the reason why I wrote the above sentence. I know that you were saying you were laid off and you felt like it was because of DEI and AA, and so this may be a sensitive moment for you. But when you say things like these programs were put in place to discriminate against you, that' s not true. The very nature of these programs exists to try and bridge the gap between opportunity and disparity that have been in existence for a very long time. More specifically DEI has more to do with respecting people who may be different than you. It is way of understanding someone else's values, beliefs, and backgrounds, learning from them, empowering and educating.

It's a combination of effort, intelligence, and culture. Some groups of people just choose not to succeed in life. One person's success has no bearing on another person's success. When I was in my early 20s and applying to police departments for the first time, I was flat out told they were not interested in hiring straight white males. This is what DEI is about. Anti-White, Anti-Male, Anti-Hetero, and Anti-Christian should not be sanctioned by the government.
The system isn't perfect, however. Currently 1% of the population pay over 40% of federal income taxes in the finanically bigoted progressive tax system. If we would eliminate Medicaid, SNAP, EBT, and other entitlement programs that discourage upward mobility we could alleviate some of the tax burden on higher percentage earners which would in effect inspire them to work even harder. Right now its common for people to reach a certain threshold of earning or wealth and then just give up because so much of the additional income would be taxed at an unfair rate.

Vance is part of that. He was "sponsored" by Thiel.
