I get pedicures all the time. The difference in them such as a full foot & leg rub along with the pedicure depends on the place. A lot of spas do pedicures and parafin wax treatments but they can be pricey. Ask people you know where they go. Drive around and go into a few places. A reputable place will have the business license displayed along with each nail tech having his or her individual license displayed in plain view at their stations. The place I go to cleans the tools where everyone can see so there is no question of cleanliness or professionalism.
I get a mani and pedi q 2 weeks like clockwork. It's been this way looong before I became a RN.
I look forward to my me time and I haven't had an issue with cleanliness either. I've been going to the same place for over 5 years and I'm treated very well there.
I also treat myself to a microderm facial q 3 months.
I never used to get massages. Now that I'm working 3-4 12's in a row, it's almost a weekly requirement. I go to the kiosk in the mall, where they do a 20-minute massage for $20..it erases all that back strain from being on my feet, boosting patients, and leaning/reaching around telemetry equipment
I'm not big on people messing with my feet. A good foot rub is one thing, but all the times I've gone for pedicures, I've always asked for the clippers to cut my own toenails and the people always look at me like I have underwear on my head. I just can't stand someone else doing it.
But a good full-body massage.....heck yeah. It is divine and well worth the $$ I spend on it every now and then.
Oh girl, I am totally with you on this one! I have never had a pedicure and probably never will. I am told that it is very relaxing, but all I can think about is whose germs are floating in that basin, did they clean the instruments well, what if someone got nicked and there is old blood on the instruments, etc. etc. etc. Ain't no way I can relax with my OCD thoughts running through my head like Forrest Gump running across the US!

Oh, how nursing changes you. I'm a new grad, been working a few months. I've never been in to pedicures but the more 12 hour shifts I spend running around, the more enticing they seem if only for the footrub part. I'm very close to getting over the ick factor of having a stranger touch my feet with tools of questionable cleanliness.
