Things you would love to say to your fellow nursing students!

Published

Along the lines of the first thread, "Things you would love to say to your nursing instructors" I thought this would be a great thread to start. I've since graduated LVN but there was one main thing I wanted to say to some students in my class.

Will you people in the back row please stop talking! I swear that today I can still hear their motormouths running! :chuckle

When I am in the RN bridge I will come back and post some more. I'm sure some of you have something to get off your chest. Come on and unload here! :)

I've been working as an RN for a couple of years and I miss school! :(

Enjoy (OK, maybe this isn't the best word) while it lasts!

Oh yes...

Stop spraying perfume on yourself just before we walk onto the respiratory care floor for clinicals. Have you no clue at all?

Don't look at me for affirmation when you try to use your kids as the reason you are ____________ (fill in blank) late? unprepared? stressed? confused? Yes I have kids too, but I would never ever think that makes my situation more difficult than anyone else's in our group. In fact if you were more sensitive you'd have noticed that the youngest among us, in my opinion, has the most difficult stresors in her home life, but she is always tidy, prepared, on time, pleasant, and generous with her knowledge.

Follow directions. If you are instructed to do something by our professor then do it the way you are instructed! No one cares if you think it is stupid, tedious, or unecessary. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! You're not a nurse you are a student. You don't actually get to say you know a better way yet! And I sure as he!! am not going to do anything the way you think it should be done. Are you INSANE?

No sidebars during lecture for the love of God. Annoying, disrespectful, aggravating.

Don't gossip and talk about fellow students behind their back. Seriously. Your ridiculous insecurities are showing! You're becoming a nurse, show some maturity, get a life.

To my NORMAL clinical co-students: thanks for helping me keep my head and for literally helping me at times when I was scared to do a procedure or face a new situation! You guys rock! :)

Thanks for asking for my help and showing your vulnerabilities too. Thanks for being on time, for trying, for being respectful, honest, kind, demanding, and for having my back. Thanks for sharing the ups and downs and unpredictability of exam results! Sometimes we nailed it - sometimes it seems we studied all the wrong stuff!! I can't wait till we all graduate, I will be so proud of us!

To my classmates with the 4-color clicky pens - please stop aimlessly clicking them ALL OF THE TIME

1. Yes, I know, you or one of your family members has had every disease we have talked about. However, I don't need to hear the 10 minute story on it. It's way too much time I'll never get back...

2. Believe it or not, you don't know everything. There's a reason that your repeating Nursing II. So stop arguing with the professors when you're wrong, and telling them how to teach the lecture. And you really need to learn your cardiac meds, b/c you're going to kill someone otherwise.

------------------

If you are terrified of patients, turn green at the sight of blood or a wound, and label most nursing tasks as disgusting... Why are you becoming a nurse?

My own words, exactly!

"I don't owe you anything."

"No, you cannot borrow my book. You need to buy the materials and come prepared to class. I need my books...ALL AT THE SAME TIME. And NO- I will not make copies of the pages for you. I worked hard and have gone without so I could buy MY books and use MY books. You should have thought about that when you were getting your nails done, partying it up, or picking out rims for your car."

"It is NOT my fault that you are pregnant with the 8th child that you cannot afford. No, you cannot get a free ride from me. You're pregnant, not disabled. Do a research paper on condoms."

"No, I don't ask the teacher/staff anything anymore. Why? Because none of you have the balls to stand up and say anything, much less back me up, so you need to start acting like grown adults on your own. Sink or swim. Have fun."

--Adding to this thread will be a great stress-reliever! Thanks

"I'm sorry that your husband and family are not supportive of your decision to go back to school. I understand it's much harder without his/their support. I hate it for you. Now please STOP telling me how "easy" I have it because I have a great hubby."

just because you sit sulking about how you dont think an answer should have been marked wrong on the test and saying it loud enough so that the instructor can hear you, doesnt mean she is going to change the answer just for you.......................

why is it that you continue to cry and throw a mini temper tantrum every time you fail a test, but the few times you pass, you want to offer me tutoring, and study help...............no thanks, I like my odds better without you

on the same note, why is it that you constantly ask everyone how they did on the test and when you find out someone did worse than you, you tell everyone else and attempt to make that person look and feel bad.

Why is it that everytime you are late to clinical you think that crying about how hard your life is to the instructor is going to make her allow you to continuously come late......clinical starts at the same time every week, you knew what you were up against before you decided to become a student nurse, most of us have responsibilities ie mortgage, car payments/insurance, etc..................get over it or get out!

Wow, I didnt realize that pink sparkly lip gloss, false eye lashes and a pound of makeup were part of the nursing uniform, also didnt know our uniform came as tight as yours, guess you want to look good in case you meet some hot prospects during our rotation at the long term care facility.

Last but not least, I really dont want to hear you and your friends talking trash about that person who has to repeat a nursing course, we all know you were almost there yourself a time or two. I commend the student for returning and not giving up.....Nursing School is hard enough, more time should be spent on encouragement instead of discouragement of fellow students!!!!

What do you mean, "I didn't know we were supposed to chart!"

"Are you crying? Are you crying? ARE YOU CRYING? There's no crying! THERE'S NO CRYING IN NURSING SCHOOL!"
