Hello I was wondering what thermometers you use and if you like it? I use a VeraTemp and I hate it !!!! It is not Accurate the student might have 101 temp after a few tries and call parents to pick up recheck and no temp. Happens very often ;(

I'm not a school nurse but...
I prefer either oral or tympanic. My home health agency gave us temporal ones but I gave up on it after I got a reading of 105 on a patient who felt fine. After a little investigating he had had the lamp by that side of his head on....
I want a temp that is accurate and doesn't require CSI type questioning if you get an off reading....

Filac 3000 Ez Love it
Oh, and I forgot to say it's "meh". I find it doesn't hold a charge long. Maybe it's just old. I'm forever changing the batteries.

If I'm in the hallway and kid approaches me saying, "I think I have a temp", I slap my hand on their forehead...mommy style. lol
Otherwise we have a Welch Allyn oral therm we use. I love it.

Braun Thermoscan Tympanic Thermometer- love it! The covers are inexpensive and come 200 in a box. Before I got there the nurse was using a temporal thermometer. I didn't like it because I didn't feel like it was accurate and required to much forehead swipe which is gross.

Braun Thermoscan Tympanic Thermometer - seems to work the best for me. I have the Welch Allen oral as a backup tho I rarely use it. I purchased the Veratemp to use on my special needs kids with sensory issues - I hate it - never seems accurate - I have tested it on several students then verified with the Tympanic Thermometer - Out of 10 temps I may get 1-2 that will have similar readings on both both the Veratemp & the tympanic thermometer.

I started a thread before Christmas about the same thing.

I have a Welch-Allyn Sure Temp under the tongue thermometer and honest-to Betsy it has never read an elevated temp on a student since I have worked here (1.5 years). And I had a kid today who looked feverish, felt feverish to me, and the Welch-Allyn read 98.9 F and the Vera-temp read 102.2 F. I sent him home.
Looks like I will be on the hunt for another thermometer.

Braun Ear Thermometer. Having been a school nurse for many many years. I have tried many different ones. For the long haul, I have found this one is the best in my opinion.
