The Trump Thread

Published

I confess to back pedaling into Trump territory when I wanted to leave discussions about him in the garbage can.  My thread on the read-only break room site has 9,600 replies so I thought I'd bring up a new one.

He's not going away.

Haberman's book is out based on interviews.  I won't read it, but the excerpts are interesting.  Especially what he says about McConnell, a description that's against the Terms of Service here, but I actually don't disagree with.  LOL

Quote

“At one point, Trump made a candid admission that was as jarring as it was ultimately unsurprising. ‘The question I get asked more than any other question: “If you had it to do again, would you have done it?”’Trump said of running for president. ‘The answer is, yeah, I think so. Because here’s the way I look at it. I have so many rich friends and nobody knows who they are.’ … Reflecting on the meaning of having been president of the United States, his first impulse was not to mention public service, or what he felt he’d accomplished, only that it appeared to be a vehicle for fame, and that many experiences were only worth having if someone else envied them.”

As almost any political ad does, this is missing a lot of context.

And, except for you apparently, I believe I'm the only one here who cares at all about football.

I'm not a fan of American football.  We wouldn't let our son play. The increasing information about CTE makes our choices in that area seem prescient.

I'm not sure what context you think the ad needs, it's not a policy ad.  It didn't really even highlight the names that Trump called NFL players or how he almost singlehandedly destroyed the USFL years ago.  What context were you thinking about?  Maybe it was context about which teams Trump wouldn't host or how Trump fed the athletes when they did visit the White House? Which context do you think could have been included?

Uh oh.

The judge warned Trump today that if gag order fines don't change Trump's pattern of violations he will consider confinement of the defendant.  Reporting indicated that the SS is exploring how that would work with local authorities.

...I wanted to know what Trump would do if he wins a second term, to hear his vision for the nation, in his own words.

What emerged in two interviews with Trump, and conversations with more than a dozen of his closest advisers and confidants, were the outlines of an imperial presidency that would reshape America and its role in the world. To carry out a deportation operation designed to remove more than 11 million people from the country, Trump told me, he would be willing to build migrant detention camps and deploy the U.S. military, both at the border and inland. He would let red states monitor women's pregnancies and prosecute those who violate abortion bans. He would, at his personal discretion, withhold funds appropriated by Congress, according to top advisers. He would be willing to fire a U.S. Attorney who doesn't carry out his order to prosecute someone, breaking with a tradition of independent law enforcement that dates from America's founding. He is weighing pardons for every one of his supporters accused of attacking the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, more than 800 of whom have pleaded guilty or been convicted by a jury. He might not come to the aid of an attacked ally in Europe or Asia if he felt that country wasn't paying enough for its own defense. He would gut the U.S. civil service, deploy the National Guard to American cities as he sees fit, close the White House pandemic-preparedness office, and staff his Administration with acolytes who back his false assertion that the 2020 election was stolen.

TIME's Eric Cortellessa, who covers the Trump campaign, interviewed the former President twice in April to hear from Trump himself what a second term would look like.

Trump has sat with TIME journalists regularly for extensive interviews since he announced he was running for President in 2015. We believe these interviews—and deep reporting that places them in historical context—provide valuable guidance for our readers. You'll find published in TIME today the feature profile that resulted from our two recent interviews with Trump, as well as a full transcript and analysis of his remarks.

I've observed same sentiments they report from watching Trumps rallies, cable interviews with former cabinet + military,  checking out his Truth Social posts along with reading Heritage Foundation Project 2025 plans for the next Republican presidency.

Trump's corrupt thinking isn't exactly secret but it's somewhat unsettling that the right wing voting support is so ambivalent about democracy that they will ignore the intentions outlined above.  The GOP isn't trying very hard to hide their un-American plans.

All of that public whining must have worked.  Now he has to go.  That's kind of funny.

...In interview, Trump doesn't commit to accepting 2024 results

"If everything's honest, I'll gladly accept the results. I don't change on that," Trump said in an interview Wednesday. "If it's not, you have to fight for the right of the country."

In the interview, Trump again falsely claimed he won Wisconsin in 2020. "If you go back and look at all of the things that had been found out, it showed that I won the election in Wisconsin," Trump said. "It also showed I won the election in other locations."

Biden won Wisconsin in 2020 by just over 20,000 votes, taking 1,630,866 votes compared to Trump's 1,610,184. Trump did win the state in 2016.

Recounts requested by Trump and reviews, even those conducted by conservatives, found no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election....

Trump violated his gag order again, posting a video from Bannon's program where Andrew Giuliani said some things about judge Merchan's daughter. I wonder, is Trump too dumb to understand what the tag order allows or prohibits or does he just want to see what he can get away with like a typical criminal? Is he that dumb or that corrupt?

Trump Media's accounting firm charged with 'massive fraud'

Quote

BF Borgers, Trump Media & Technology Group's independent accounting firm, was charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday with widespread fraud and accused of operating a "sham audit mill.”

The SEC made no allegation of wrongdoing against Truth Social owner Trump Media (DJT), which is not mentioned in the charges from the regulator.

The SEC accused BF Borgers of "deliberate and systemic failures,” including "fabricating" audit documentation and falsely representing to clients its work would comply with accounting standards.

The agency described this as "massive" fraud taking place between January 2021 and June 2023 that impacted more than 1,500 SEC filings and more than 500 public companies.

The SEC imposed a severe penalty against BF Borgers, permanently suspending the firm from practicing as accountants before the agency effective immediately. The firm and its owner, Benjamin Borgers, also agreed to pay $14 million collectively in fines...

That seems about right.

Trump had hired another accounting firm but they quit after opening the Trump books ands said they dish he wasn't to be associated with that name or business.  Trump found a corrupt accounting agency that was happy to lie for him.

Did you catch Trump lying to the press the other day, telling them that he couldn't testify in the trial because he was gagged?  Did you see his lawyer just standing there and nodding like he agreed with all of that?
