This final decision ends constitutional protection for abortion, returning the rights to state legislatures.

In a historic and far-reaching decision, the U.S. Supreme Court officially reversed Roe v. Wade on Friday, declaring that the constitutional right to abortion, upheld for nearly a half century, no longer exists.

Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, ending right to abortion upheld for decades

Do you think the Supreme Court made the right decision or gone too far?

This week Kansas voted to maintain access to abortion care.

Yay for a small victory, because bear in mind opponents of abortion. Restricting access to abortion doesn't stop it, it just means more people die from it.

Not to mention the clueless dingbat legislators who seem to think an ectopic pregnancy (that will never be viable) can just be moved and implanted in the uterus.

Dr. Savita Halappanavar, an irish dentist died after it was found that her pregnancy was not compatible with life. Couldnt get an abortion because the foetus still had a heartbeat. When the foetal heartbeat stopped a few days later, it was too late to save Dr Halappanavar.  Her death helped bring about massive abortion reform in Ireland.

Also, I would recommend checking out r/nursing on reddit. People are already sharing case studies about women being put at risk due to not being allowed to have a non viable foetus removed.

Some of the forced birth legislators are dingbats...others are devious.

I also heard an interview with a pediatric neurosurgeon who stated that his colleagues are bracing for the future of treating children born with severe neurological defects such as encephaloceles will require extraordinary efforts to care for them before death.  He mentioned that this is also very painful for the baby.  The inability of people to think still stuns me.

We are living in an era when gullible people are manipulated by media and political personalities. Apparently that purpose now is to convince conservative Americans that women shouldn't have a right to health privacy,  money really really will eventually trickle down, and attempting to overthrow the government because of a lie is a sign of patriotism.

Research supports this account of the motivation behind conspiracy belief. Studies have shown that people are likely to turn to conspiracy theories when they are anxious (Grzesiak-Feldman, 2013) and feel powerless (Abalakina-Paap, Stephan, Craig, & Gregory, 1999). Other research indicates that conspiracy belief is strongly related to lack of sociopolitical control or lack of psychological empowerment (Bruder et al., 2013). Experiments have shown that compared with baseline conditions, conspiracy belief is heightened when people feel unable to control outcomes and is reduced when their sense of control is affirmed (van Prooijen & Acker, 2015).

Well, the money has had half a century to trickle down and I'm not seeing any evidence of it so the people on the bottom of the economic scale can't see that they have been grifted all this time. ..that's just sad.  I think there are plenty of conservative Americans who oppose abortion bans and are unable to reconcile the violence of 1/6 with American values.  If I think about it, I actually know 2! but we don't run in a conservative crowd:)

It's not the violence of January 6 that troubles me, it's the intent.

I put violence at the top of the pyramid for imprisonment.  How can we truly know what someone's intent is and then measure that intent on a justice scale?

The intent was to over turn the 2020 election and install Trump as some sort of alternative president.  We measure that against the laws and the constitution.

IMHO, it would be easier to prove the case that Trump incited violence.  Yes, there was definitely a defined purpose for the violence but, if the violence alone would put him in an orange suit, I'll take it.  You can't argue about the video evidence.  But his defenders can always come back with well, well, well..he was just defending us against a corrupt election so the violence was justified.  We treat armed robbers more seriously than un-armed robbers for a reason.  Once they bring a gun into the picture, they intend to possibly deprive someone of their life.  Maybe my desire to see him in that jumpsuit (or worst) is influencing my judgement.

what is America like for encouraging pregnant patients to take prenatal vitamins?I'm in NZ, one of the big ones encouraged is folic acid to prevent neural tube defects as well as prenatal multi.

In fairbanks the community hospital closed the low income OB/Gyn clinic because there are no providers... just one NP remains.  Those women will figure it out.
