Hi all! Just thought I'd go ahead and start this. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas (or whatever you celebrate!) I'm very much enjoying my family time right now.
Spring semester starts January 5th for me, and I'll be taking A&P 2 and College Algebra. Hope to see lots of you posting here like last semester :)
We're flying through the axial/appendicular skeleton. Next week we start articulations.
In a&p2? we did all of that pretty early on in A&p 1.
We are doing the endocrine system and about ot move onto Blood.
Does anybody else find the endocrine system kind of confusing with all the functions, stimulations and inhibitions of EVERY hormone???:uhoh21:
Ok, I officially have had my first lec & lab. Reproductive system. My lab was a nightmare, I was paired with 3 girls on cadaver work that refused to speak english. I asked politely if they could speak so I could understand what they were saying about the uterus...that was uneventful. I ended up working on my own and then paired up with another group to work on the male. What a gigantic waste of time:stone .
Next lab should be better. I have made arrangements to work with the second group again.
Sorry your first lab was terrible. {{{hug}}}
Our lab instructor was sick Thursday, so we're 3 hours behind now! The class was happy but I was not. We have a quiz to make up and a blood typing lab, so we have TONS of work to do this week. And we're having weather issues so we may miss lecture Monday aaarrrggghh! My lecturer's dad died last week so we missed two lectures. She was back Wednesday and was wonderful about answering questions. I feel so badly for her. I really hate feeling behind though KWIM? Plus I haven't been as disciplined lately as I need to be.
Scmomof3,
I know exactly how you're feeling. My 3 hour lecture and 3 hour lab got cancelled this past week because we had a snow storm. The sad thing is, I just started the class last week and already missed a day due to weather. We have a test coming up on Feb 8th and I have yet to take a page of notes in this class!! Now I'm hearing Ct might get hit with more snow on Monday too. I can only pray that this teacher will consider moving up the test date. Heck at this rate, we should just have class online until mid April..lol. Grrrrrr..enough winter already!! I'm ready to break out the shorts!
Hope you guys don't mind if I join in!
I'm taking A&P2 this semester. I was also taking my second nursing course, Med/Surg 1, but I just could not manage both with my 2 1/2 hour commute and 4 kids, so I am taking a leave from the nursing program until next January. I can rejoin no problem because I'm in good standing, having made Dean's list last semester for Fundamentals.
Anyway, we're doing the endocrine system now, like a lot of you. We've already had 3 lecture classes and 2 labs on it, and we're still not done. Hopefully tomorrow. Our lecture prof was nice and moved our first exam from next Monday, Feb 7th to Feb 14th (she only gives exam on Mondays) because being in New England, she didn't want us to have an exam the day after our beloved Patriots are playing in the Super Bowl again! LOL It will be on endocrine and the heart. But she's not moving the date of exam 2, so that one will have a lot less time in between.
Since I have so much more time to study now (a big sigh of relief here!), I'm really trying to focus. A&P1 for me was very harried - I took an intensive 6 week course, and made an A, but with a unit done and exam every 3 days, I didn't have time to let any of it sink in. I took that at a different college last summer, before I was accepted at the college I'm at now. I did do a lot of reviewing over Christmas break though.
This class is way different. We have a quiz EVERY week in lab, and 8 papers to write in lecture! Past students tell me they only are 1-2 pages long, and she doesn't care about APA format or anything - that they're more of a nuisance than anything.
The prof said she was going to post the Powerpoint lectures after each class on Blackboard, but she only posts the portion we've covered so far. PMO, because I like to review before class. She said 98% of the exams come from her PPT lectures - not from the books. In fact, a lot of students went to the bookstore to return theirs. Not smart, but not my problem!
Wow I couldn't imagine taking A&P1 in 6 weeks! You rock :) My prof. doesnt' really use our book at all either. It's all from the supplements we purchase at the bookstore (which are incredible and I hope that my nursing instructors do this too - though I am not holding my breath LOL) But I still have the book and it is one I DO NOT plan to sell back. I think it will be useful for many years to come!
Best of luck!
thank you for the encouragement!!
that's an awful feeling to be behind. ugh, catch up is terrible. i hope it all starts to pan out for you. chin up, dicipline will kick in!!! we all have that momentary lapse.
i took a&p 1 over a summer 5 years ago...i thought it was 4 but it was in fact 5.:sofahider i remember trying to bang everything out in the short time we had, i did well but it consumed my life!
the difference now is that i am married with a 1 & 2 year old. i don't feel like i can dedicate as much time as i would like to a&p, on top of my nutrition class, working (p/t), momming and wifing. i have not been feeling well either so my dr is running some autoimmune tests on me including a biopsy, they think though that i have psoritic arthritis. but they have to rule out any autoimmune problems first.
she was taking my history and asked me my birthdate, i told her and she said 29!!! your just a baby!!!! but i say, it could always be so much worse, people live with worse ailments everyday so this will be do~able for me. i just have to stay focused!!! we all do, everyone has alot on their plate!! :bowingpur i so am glad you started this thread!!!
i have a feeling it will be very useful to all of us!!

Thanks for the encouragement! Thankfully the weather has improved and we have school today :) Sounds so weird to be excited about that LOL My kids think I'm nuts. I just realized my first A&P2 exam is a week from today - the day after the Super Bowl - how mean! LOL Time to buckle down! Right now I'm actually more worried about my Algebra exam that I have to take sometime this week. It's not coming back to me as quickly as I expected. I can do the work as long as I can refer back to my book for the formulas, but I need to memorize them! God help me!
Hope you all have a fantastic week!!

We blasted through the endrocrine system and genetic in lecture the first two and a half weeks of class. Now we're going over the reproductive system in lecture and finishing up the endocrine system in lab.
