The result: failed again, for the fourth time

Published

I just got the results. I failed NCLEX-RN...again, for the fourth time. I have spent so much money in flights to those countries that have the NCLEX-RN (US$5000)...not to mention the NCLEX-RN testing fees. The results really show me something. Are my study methods inefficient? For the past few months leading up to the test, I've been studying for the test in my native language (Korean). I haven't seriously tried Suzanne's method. I tried that Mosby's website for a month but, after awhile, the questions started repeating themselves.

I'm really scared now about what to do in the future. Should I give up and try NCLEX-PN or re-try NCLEX-RN again? Is NCLEX-PN a watered-down version of NCLEX-RN? If I can't pass NCLEX-RN, what future do I have? I'm 40-years-old and this is the only profession I know. Is God sending me message in all this? I wonder what he wants me to do. Another path?

Anyone, please give me some advice. I'm in Doha, Qatar. If someone reading this can help me, please PM me. :uhoh21:

NCLEX is in English so better study it using English language, not Korean

Not to beat a dead horse :deadhorse , but study for the English NCLEX in English. Otherwise, it's like practicing for a water polo match in the desert. Good luck.

Thanks for your advice. I've decided to give it another shot this summer. What's the waiting period until I can write again?

Between now and the summer, I plan to try Suzanne's method. I know my main problem with NCLEX-RN: lack of critical thinking, absence of analysis of nursing knowledge to answer the questions. Isn't that the skill that NCLEX-RN tests? Isn't memorizing a lower-level skill that critical-skill thinking is built upon? I think that NCLEX-RN is not a memory test but a critical-thinking test.

there is a woman named DR. Buszta that teaches the nclex review and specializes in forgein students. she is located in broadview hts, ohio. you may want to give her a call.

I think if you REALLY love nrsg u should put taking the NCLEX away for a little while and try to re- learn everything I mean from scratch. Doing review after review might only confuse u. Take NCLEX off your mind for now just so you don't get stressed or panic and take it real slow. Or MAYBE this is a sign, maybe u might be considering another profession but when u love something u just can't let go right! BEST OF LUCK TO U on whatever u decide to do!

dont give up..

Thanks for advice.

I could get my mind off NCLEX-RN, wait and work for a year and do it again in summer 2008. I'm living in the Middle East now so I can work without it. This may give me some practical hands-on training that I might be able to apply to NCLEX-RN since NCLEX-RN seems to be problem-solving by applying nursing knowledge to scenarios.

But I'm worried that if I put this on pause for a year, I may lose momentum and not be able to restart my studies again in 2008 or whenever. I am a person with a one track mind. I like to focus on one thing. When finished this one thing, move onto something else.

The only thing I can tell you is do Suzanne's plan, it really works. It worked for me and I know it can work for you too if you put forth the effort, but above all start studying in English!!!! In regards to age it doesn't matter because it's never too late. I had people in my graduation class that were 47 years old, keep trying and don't give up, you'll make it in the right time. Happy studying and take care,

Please stop. after the 4th time you need to take some time off and reconsider your options. Clearly you haven't assessed your own learning needs effectively the first 4 times. Sometimes trying too hard can be a genuine cause of failure. Move on to something else for a year or two, then come back to the NCLEX. If you choose to continue after a break, more power to you, but I think that right now, even if you happened to squeak through, you wouldn't be mentally prepared for orientation, or taking on the responsibility of a full assignment. Take a break.

**This is just my opinion, and I acknowledge that I don't know the poster or his/her situation, so no flames please**

What is the American Way of Nursing? Does this mean critical thinking & logic skills? How can I learn or enhance these?
