I started a thread here that I meant to put somewhere else, and I erased it. So what to discuss in the coffee lounge?
Have you seen any good movies lately?
Last movie I saw was "The Last Duel". Pretty good.
Anyone seen "Dune"? I see it's available for streaming and might rent it. It's up for an Academy Award for best picture.
Juniper is a very good movie with good cinematography set in New Zealand about a woman who comes to stay with her estranged son and grandson to recover from a broken leg. The movie centers around the relationship with her grandson whom she never met before because she was estranged from her son. Turns out she really came there because she was dying. Very well done.
It's not often I'll watch a Western but "Surrounded" was getting some good reviews so I gave it a watch. Very well acted and told story of a black woman disguising herself as a man and navigating in a white man's world at the end of the Civil War.
I didn't realize it but the lead is played by one of the actresses in the movies Black Panther and Wakanda Forever. I was also surprised that one of main characters is played by the actor that played the lead in the 2000 movie "Billy Elliot" for which he got acclaim. He's very good in this movie.
Godland is a very well done Danish-Icelandic film with stunning scenery and cinematography. The actor got a Best Actor nomination at the European Film Awards and deservedly so.
The weird thing is that in the opening credits it states it is based on some pictures found that were presumed to be the first photos taken in this part of Iceland. So I went looking for those photos online and found out this was a fictional statement. This is reminiscent of the movie Fargo that stated it was based on true events but wasn't. Weird.
Overall I'd give the movie a B but cinematography an A+
Love the movie reviews. AND I am jealous because you get to see so many movies. I don't think I've been to a theater in....?....25 years? YIKES! Plus I can only imagine my hubby's and Nannies reactions to the subject matters if we were to see any of them on TV. They already freak about the commercials that show men being affectionate with each other. Well, they are traditional Southerners through and through.

I love going to see movies in the theater, and am going tomorrow. But many of the movies are streaming, some of which are rentals which is cheaper than going to the movies.
Yep, doubtful your husband and nannie would like some of the above movies.. LOL
Based on great reviews I rented "Return to Seoul" and found it well done and well acted.

I have not watched yet, but it's on my short list. I'm currently staying off of Netflix, sorting out family accounts and thinking about the writers.
I also love the theater experience but only go a few times a year.

The Blue Caftan is a movie set in Morocco about a tailer that hides his sexuality, his dying wife, and his apprentice with whom there is an attraction. It's a slow burn with really good cinematography. Very good.
