I started a thread here that I meant to put somewhere else, and I erased it. So what to discuss in the coffee lounge?
Have you seen any good movies lately?
Last movie I saw was "The Last Duel". Pretty good.
Anyone seen "Dune"? I see it's available for streaming and might rent it. It's up for an Academy Award for best picture.
She Said is the true story about the reporters for the New York Times and their bombshell article about Harvey Weinstein that started the #metoo movement.
Well well written and acted.
Thankfully Weinstein is behind bars for the rest of his life in prison. He has nearly 40 years to serve and he's 70 years old.
"Moving On" is a dark movie with some comedy elements about a rape survivor wanting to kill her attacker after his wife, a good friend of hers, dies, some 46 years after she was raped. It talks of the trauma the rape survival had on her life and moving on many years later.
I've read some reviews on Google that it has a "woke agenda". I'm not sure what that agenda is but the Lily Tomlin character is a lesbian and there is a scene of her with a tween that likes to play dress up and she's accepting and not rejecting. (Guess in these days that's too woke and grooming??).
Also it is interesting that whenever people review or see an ad that has Jane Fonda in it they still call her a traitor and "Hanoi Jane". They can have their opinion, but many of them obviously weren't even alive then or were children. Plus they don't know the background of a picture taken out of context and her anti-war activism. But I get it she was a bit over the top, like Sinead O'Connor ripping up a picture of the Pope on national TV or the Dixie Chicks saying they were ashamed of America in another country. There's a price to be paid.
All that aside, Jane Fonda is one of the finest actors and she puts in a good performance here.
Chrissy Judy is a movie shot in black and white about two gay/drag queen best friends that are growing into their 30's when one decides to go to an alternative plan for his life and break up the duo. The other one is left to reinvent himself, but not before getting on the hot mess express. Really well done.

This movie was good. I think you'd have to be a fan of hers to appreciate it because it's pretty predictable, but the music is very good. It doesn't sugar coat her relationship with a woman, her drug abuse and her relationship with Bobby Brown. It seemed to skip over a lot of her life, but I guess there's only so much you can put into a movie.
Been watching series like "Sweet Tooth" on Netflix and "Jack Ryan" on Amazon and having been to the theaters or watching movies much.
On Netflix they have "A Man Called Otto" staring Tom Hanks. Tells a good story of loss, grief, depression, injustice and finding something to live for. Very good.
An Apple TV movie "Causeway" is a slow burn of an indie movie that stars Jennifer Lawrence and Brian Tyree Henry as two people who come across each other and how trauma in their life is manifested in behavior and relationships.
It got Henry an Academy Award nomination in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance which was deserving. Good movie overall.

"Palm Trees and Power Lines" is a well acted and told indie movie about what happens to a 17 year old that meets a 34 year old man.
