I started a thread here that I meant to put somewhere else, and I erased it. So what to discuss in the coffee lounge?
Have you seen any good movies lately?
Last movie I saw was "The Last Duel". Pretty good.
Anyone seen "Dune"? I see it's available for streaming and might rent it. It's up for an Academy Award for best picture.
I've been watching some series on Apple and Netflix and not many movies. I'll review the shows when I finish but in the meantime I watched The Old Guard 2 on Netflix a continuation of a 2020 movie about a group of immortals that fight evil.
It's okay for what it is, some light entertainment without much thinking. Lots of fighting and action. Critics are apparently not liking this movie. Like I said it's good for what it is.
Tweety said:Untamed is Netflix series set in Yosemite Park with a lot of great scenery. It's a six-episode mystery with several layers and a few twists and turns. It's very good and worth checking out.
I loved this one. So glad they decided to go for a second season instead of a "limited series"
Friendship is dramedy about a loner business man that makes friends with his neighbor and sees his life spiral out of control. It's really good.

Dark Matter is an Apple TV series that I enjoyed. It's about a man who gets thrown into an alternate universe where another version of himself existed and his journey to find his way back home. He does this by going into a big black box his alter-self invented and opening doors to different universes and he has to discover how to get back to his old universe and his family.
I found it well acted and unique.
The Thursday Murder Club is a Netflix movie about four seniors in a retirement community that meet weekly to discuss cold case murders and get wrapped up in a real murder case. The strength of the movie is its stellar cast including the great Helen Mirren in the lead. It's light hearted with some laughs along the way.
Apparently it's based on a series of mysteries so I can see it getting a sequel and becoming a series.
The Life of Chuck is a well done movie that is a bit difficult to describe. It is told in three "acts" starting with Act III and going backwards. It's really interesting.
I'll include a review to better describe it.

Department Q is a mystery thriller TV series set in Scotland and centers around a trio of investigators delegated to solving a cold disappearance case. They each have a background story to tell. It's a very good series that unravels detail by detail and is very well done.
Season 2 is in the work and I imagine it will focus the cast on a new cold case to solve.

It was good. The quirky gaggle of investigators was nicely introduced and I look forward to the next season.

Good One is a slow moving film about a 17 year old that goes hiking in New Jersey with her dad and her dad's friend. The film slowly unfolds about the family dynamics and issues of her father and his friend. I found the setting gorgeous and the script very good. The acting was good, although subtle in nature.
It gets a 4 of 4 stars from Roger Ebert review site and enjoys a stunning 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
